When Bosch introduces a new motor, a new battery or even a new complete system, it usually shakes up the entire e-mountainbike world. This is because hardly any manufacturer that relies on the market leader's drive system misses the opportunity to present models with the new products in a timely manner. It goes without saying that the 2022 model year will be characterised by Bosch's Smart System. What it's all about, have been summarised in a separate article. In a nutshell: Bosch has smart communication with a new app, a new battery with 750 watt hours, a new display and a compact control unit. We have summarised which bikes have already been presented with the new system in this overview article.
A total of 23 E-MTBs with the new Bosch system and 750-series battery are included in the new Bulls range. The Sonic Evo AM 750 is the most versatile and therefore probably the most exciting option for trail and touring bikers. There is an entry-level version with an aluminium frame and 140 millimetres of travel for 4599 euros. An all-terrain fully with the 750 mm Bosch will hardly be available for less next year. The flagship models are the four variants with carbon frames and 150 millimetres of travel, which cost between €4999 and €8699. All Sonic Evo AM models come with a wheel mix of a large 29er front wheel and a smaller 27.5er at the rear.
Does the bike look familiar to you? Quite possibly. The new E-Inceptions with Bosch drive inherit both the product name and the look from their Shimano brothers. The sporty carbon range was launched a year ago and has been able to also fully convince our tests. The high-quality Bosch variants have the 750 power tube and the Smart System implemented. Special feature: The battery is permanently installed in the down tube. The new E-Inceptions are available in various versions, with Smart System from the 150cc All-Mountain to the 170cc Enduro.
The E-Riot is the latest addition to the E-segment from the Upper Palatinate company. Up to now, Ghost's motto has been: bikes for really bumpy enduro terrain or alpine trails? Not a chance. This is exactly what Ghost wants to change for next year and presents with the E-Riot AM and EN the perfect bike for enduro and all-mountain riders. The key data: 29 inches and 160 millimetres of travel on the AM version and 170 millimetres on the Enduro version (pictured). Also on board: the new Smart System from Bosch and the corresponding 750 watt-hour battery. The top models of the two e-bikes E-Riot AM and E-Riot EN come with a carbon fibre main frame and cost 6499 and 6999 euros respectively. In order to provide small riders with comfortable handling, all bikes in frame size S ride on 27.5-inch wheels.
Corratec is set to launch a new E-All-Mountain in 2022. The drive support is the responsibility of Bosch's new Smart System. 160 millimetres of travel, an MX wheel mix of 29 inches at the front and 27.5 inches at the rear and slack angles - the Corratec RS 160 should feel right at home on fast descents. But before you plunge the bike into rock gardens and root carpets, you have to climb metres in altitude. This is where the new Powertube battery comes into play - and with 750 watt hours, it provides the RS 160 with enough juice for long uphills. The racer is available in four equipment variants. The price range extends from 5099 euros to 7099 euros.
Nicolai works according to the motto: evolution instead of revolution. This also applies to the E-Boxx continuous further development. The aluminium specialists have planned a few details for 2022: Milled parts in the head tube area and on the compression struts should save around 700 grams of weight - which is pretty much the same as the additional weight of the large Powertube 750 compared to the 625 version. This is Nicolai's way of preventing a further increase in weight, as the E-Boxx is traditionally designed for durability and off-road expertise rather than lightweight construction. The complete bike should land at 25.6 kilos with pedals. An adjustable damper slider makes 180 millimetres of travel possible on request. The chainstays can also be adjusted to a 29er rear wheel.
Also KTM plants its Macina E mountain bikes the new Smart System from Bosch. Apart from this, the 2022 model range will only undergo minor changes. Instead of being inserted from below as before, the energy carrier is now inserted into the down tube from above. Other new additions: The enduro model Macina Prowler with 180/170 mm suspension travel and a wheel mix will have a steering angle of 64.1 degrees, which is one degree slacker, but a shorter reach and a slightly slacker seat angle. On the Macina Lycan touring model with 140 mm travel and 27.5-inch tyres, the seat angle is slightly steeper and the reach increases by a few millimetres. The geometry of the all-mountain Macina Kapoho has not changed. There will be a total of four model variants of the Prowler, the cheapest model with the new Bosch system is the Prowler Master for 6399 euros. The Kapoho models with the Bosch Smart System start at 4999 euros, while the Macina Lycan touring model starts at 4699 euros.
The No Pogo is an absolute classic among full-suspension mountain bikes. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Centurion has designed a special limited edition: the No Pogo R25i. It goes without saying that the birthday model comes with the brand new Bosch Smart System and the Powertube 750. The jubilarian also relies on 29er wheels, 160/155 millimetre suspension travel, steel spring shock absorbers and a sporty geometry. This should make the bike the most off-road capable e-MTB in the Centurion range. However, the engineers emphasise that the newcomer is not a pure racer for extreme riders. The No Pogo R25i is also intended to be a comfortable touring companion for more sedate riding. Traditionally strong: Centurion releases the bike up to 150 kilos system weight.
The developers of the new Lapierre Overvolt Important: Central weight distribution, improved geometry and a special detail in the motor integration: To optimise the cooling and protection of the drive, a special aluminium motor plate was developed that sits under the Bosch Performance CX. The long Powertube 750 sits deep in the down tube in front of the rotated drive unit. In addition to the three AM models, Lapierre is also launching a TR with reduced suspension travel (for trail) and two hardtail models with the Smart System and Powertube 750.
Mondraker relies extensively on Bosch drives for its E-MTBs. The Crafty was able to even won the test in our last all-mountain comparison secure. The Craftys start at €6499 with an aluminium frame, but there is also the Chaser (€5899), which uses the same frame. The key data: 160/150 millimetre suspension travel, 29er wheels, long and flat geometry. The bikes are designed to score points in demanding terrain. The highlight is the carbon models (8299 to 12999 euros). In 2022, all Craftys will have batteries permanently integrated into the down tube in order to better accommodate the long energy carriers in the bike.
As recently as June, the Finnish blacksmith Pole das Voima presented. The motto: More is more. 190 millimetres of suspension travel and a completely CNC-milled frame. This definitely makes the Voima something special. The original Voima was powered by a Brose SMag with a 720 battery. Now the Finns are switching to the new Bosch system with Powertube 750. The large battery is removed from the bottom of the down tube, leaving space in the frame triangle for a range extender. Although this is not currently available in the Bosch portfolio, Pole already seems to be preparing for the future. Alternatively, there is space for three bottle cages - remember: more is more. Due to the difficult delivery situation, the Voima is available as a frame set. Complete bikes follow from 8490 euros.
The Xyron is the moderate fully in the Conway product range. For the coming model year, the Weiden-based company has injected the touring bike with even more comfort and off-road capability. With large 29er wheels and one centimetre more suspension travel. With 150 millimetres of travel at the rear and a 160 mm fork, the Xyron ranks in the trail and all-mountain category. Three of the five model variants come with a carbon frame. The remaining bikes are made from aluminium.
Haibike's 2022 Bosch models benefit from a design that the Schweinfurt-based company presented two years ago. The motor sits rotated in the bottom bracket area, making room for a battery positioned deep in the down tube. With the new, long Powertube 750, this suits the designers very well. Space problems? Not with Haibike. With the All-Mtn models come with the giant battery and the new technology from Bosch This means it can be used in all frame sizes, whereas some other manufacturers have to capitulate when it comes to small sizes. New to the design: The battery is pulled downwards out of the closed down tube.
Almost six months ago, Scott presented the new Spark, its first mountain bike with an integrated shock. And lo and behold: the E-MTB newcomer Patron eRide is now also pushing ahead with system integration for e-mountainbikes with a concealed shock and cable integration on the cockpit. In order to be able to equip bikes in frame size S with the new Bosch system despite the long 750 battery, the Swiss company has positioned the motor upright in the bottom bracket area. This creates space in the down tube and enables a design in which the battery is pulled downwards out of the frame.
Marching as usual Cubes E-MTB models in step with the new model year. From the hardtail Reaction Hybrid to the Enduro Stereo Hybrid 160, the new Bosch system is used. All four models also have the other technical updates in common. Also standardised: The most affordable equipment variants rely on the design and Bosch system of the 2021 models. In the case of the best-selling Stereo Hybrid 140, this means that the new package is available from the SL model for €4599, while the Pro and Race variants rely on the older technology.
