BIKE WHEELS

- WTB has unveiled the CGR i28, a carbon gravel wheelset with an internal width of 28 mm for tyres 45–54 mm wide.
- New Frequency 7X hubs with a DLC-coated freehub, toothed ring construction and large enduro bearings are designed to improve durability and ease of maintenance.
- Asymmetrical rims, the TCS tubeless standard and reinforced spoke holes are designed for demanding gravel riding, alongside a comprehensive rim warranty programme.

WTB CGR i28: Wide carbon wheels for the next generation of gravel bikes?

- DT Swiss is extending its DF technology to classic Ratchet and Ratchet LN hubs via the Ratchet DF Upgrade Kit, including e-bike approval.
- DF technology enables a defined free play in the freewheel, reduces pedal kickback and improves traction and responsiveness on descents.
- Two new DEG-DF Race Kits, with 30 or 40 degrees, are designed for riders who want to fine-tune their suspension specifically for different downhill track profiles.

DT Swiss expands its DF technology: greater compatibility and flexibility for the suspension boost

- FSA KFX i30: A lightweight carbon XC wheelset weighing 1,250 g with an inner width of 30 mm, developed in collaboration with World Cup teams and already used to great success.
- Asymmetrical rim, direct-pull spokes, ABS nipples and a PRS hub with 72 teeth are designed for stability, efficiency and low maintenance.
- Focus on traction, control and durability for technical XC trails; tubeless hookless design, 6-hole, lifetime guarantee, price €2,189.

FSA KFX i30: New carbon XC wheels – World Cup-level speed at just 1,250 grams

- The Vision SC 45 i30 are wide, robust carbon gravel wheels (30 mm internal width, 45 mm tall) designed for a wide range of uses, from tarmac to bikepacking.
- The generous inner width accommodates 50–55 mm tyres with low pressure, delivering greater traction, control, comfort and cornering stability.
- The focus is on stability and reliability rather than lightweight construction: 1,542 g, V-200 hubs with a 3-pawl freehub, 6 industrial-grade bearings, price €1,249.

Vision SC 45 i30: Gravel wheels that prioritise width over minimal weight

- Industry Nine is launching the Hush 32 Carbon, an XC/trail wheelset developed specifically for 32-inch wheels.
- The wheelset features 30 mm-wide WR1 carbon rims, 24 aluminium system spokes, SOLiX hubs with 605 engagement points, and weighs 1,512 g per set.
- The 32-inch size is said to offer smoother running, better rolling characteristics and greater stability; internal tests indicate performance figures on a par with 29-inch wheels, with only minimal differences in lateral stiffness.

- CH 45 PRO GX: 30 mm inner rim width, 45 mm height, designed for wide gravel tyres from 47 mm (in some cases from 40 mm) and lower tyre pressures.
- Focus on agile handling on technical terrain, predictable behaviour in crosswinds and a lightweight design of 1,240 g for frequent sprints.
- Carbon rim with SAPIM CX carbon spokes, 2:1 lacing pattern, PRO hubs, freehub options for Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo; available from 28 August 2026 from €1,599.

Leeze gravel wheelset: a wide, flat rim profile – but why?

- The 26-inch wheel set the standard for MTBs for three decades before the 27.5-inch wheel became established as a compromise and the 29-inch wheel as the new dominant standard.
- The 29-inch wheel has become the norm in almost all MTB categories, thanks to modern geometry and suspension systems that offer improved roll-over performance, greater traction and a smoother ride.
- 32-inch is regarded as the next stage in the evolution, offering smoother riding and more traction, but faces technical, ergonomic and market hurdles; the first small-batch models are already available.

The history of wheel sizes: from the 26-inch dogma through the ‘mullet mix’ to 32-inch

- The Mavic Crossmax Ultimate is a 29" XC wheelset weighing 1,080 g, featuring carbon rims (30 mm internal width), carbon spokes and ceramic bearings.
- Adaptive-layup rims, carbon spokes with titanium nuts and ultra-light hubs reduce weight whilst maintaining stiffness and race-ready performance.
- Hand-built, 57 quality control checks, World Cup-proven; aimed at ambitious XC racers and marathon riders, priced at 2,299 euros.

- Chris King is returning to the BMX racing segment with BMX disc hubs, focusing on low weight, stiffness and efficient power transfer.
- The rear hub utilises the RingDrive system with 72 teeth (optional 36T), reduced weight, a one-piece stainless steel axle and a 6-hole disc mount.
- Front hub without disc mount for 20 mm axles; rear hub options include a 15 mm thru-axle or M10 bolt-on, both with 36 holes; prices in the premium segment.

- Pi Rope is launching three extremely lightweight gravel wheelsets (Sierra 27, 42, Aera 48) made from Toray T1100 carbon, featuring Vectran spokes and NONPLUS hubs.
- The models differ in rim height, weight, system weight and intended use, but all feature SpokeCore, DRC and SLR5 technologies.
- Prices range from 2,985 to 3,075 euros; the package includes a complete 28-inch wheelset with a tubeless tape, valves, a spare spoke, maintenance oil and a warranty.
