Transalp

- Tarek Rasouli crossed the Alps from Munich to Riva on a Bowhead recumbent bike in nine days, accompanied by Danny MacAskill.
- The biggest challenges were a pressure sore, man-made trails such as those in Sölden, and long stages of up to 100 kilometres and 6,000 metres of elevation gain.
- With a 1,500 Wh eAssist, he completed every stage, enjoyed some of the highlights of the ride in Sölden and Paganella, and describes the tour as his greatest experience.

A dream Alpine crossing: Tarek Rasouli: “The greatest thing I’ve ever done”

- Tarek Rasouli is crossing the Alps for the first time on an electric handbike, travelling from Munich to Riva del Garda, staying in hotels rather than doing traditional bikepacking.
- The route takes him via Garmisch, Area 47, Sölden and the Timmelsjoch to Merano, as well as via the Paganella, with a focus on trails and bike parks.
- The tour is being filmed as a road movie featuring Danny MacAskill and celebrity friends, and will premiere in 2027 at the EOFT Bike Film Tour.

TRANSALP

- Careful route planning, choosing the right day to set off and a general understanding of the terrain are crucial for avoiding traffic jams, hazards and the need to change plans in the Alps.
- Packing your rucksack close to your body, quickly resolving any issues, carrying spare parts, sun cream and consistently wearing a helmet all enhance safety and comfort.
- Setting off early reduces the risk of thunderstorms and ensures you have time for breakfast and to reach your accommodation, as breaks, breakdowns and organising the group can take up a lot of time.

MTB season in full swing: 7 mistakes to avoid on a Transalp ride

- Val d’Uina and the rock gallery near Scuol will reopen to walkers and mountain bikers on 10 July at 6 pm – subject to certain restrictions.
- The closure was caused by mudslides and damage, particularly to the bridge near Alp Uina Dadaint, which has been undergoing repairs since 21 June.
- A temporary bridge is now likely to allow passage; the route over the Pass da Costainas is recommended as a scenic alternative.

Those crossing the Alps can breathe a sigh of relief: the Val d’Uina is open again!

- Well-developed routes make crossing the Alps by bike with gentle climbs accessible for families and leisure cyclists.
- Three main options: Ciclovia Alpe-Adria, Munich-Venezia and Inn Cycle Path, each with a different cultural and scenic focus.
- With 50-70 km per day, simple equipment and planning (weather, accommodation, luggage transport), the crossing of the Alps is an easy and enjoyable experience.

Crossing the Alps: Stress-free cycling across the Alps - 3 enjoyable routes for beginners

- On 30 May 2026, the Brenner corridor will be severely restricted for car traffic, making alternative Transalp routes attractive for cyclists.
- Recommended Alpine crossings: Reschenpass-Transalp, Via Claudia Augusta with MTB branches as well as high Alpine variants such as Timmelsjoch.
- For a successful Transalp, a bike check, reduced, sensible packing list and realistically planned stages with buffers and emergency descents are crucial.

Brenner closed: high time for the Transalp on the bike

- Four stages, 170 km and 5000 metres in altitude lead through the Upper Engadine by mountain bike based on huts and are designed to be suitable for families.
- The route combines the Bernina region, Livigno, Passo Chaschauna, the vicinity of the national park and Chamanna d'Es-cha with challenging trails and flow passages.
- Arrival, public transport, bike shops, hut addresses and stage data (length, altitude, difficulty) are listed in detail for individual tour planning.

- Topographical maps provide an overview, make it possible to recognise terrain and hazards at an early stage and are indispensable as an independent backup.
- GPS and apps enable precise navigation, up-to-date routing and convenient guidance, but are limited by battery life and reception.
- Safe touring biking requires a combination of both systems, realistic time planning, weather monitoring and clear emergency and feedback arrangements.
