The SQ-Gloves One10 wear very well in the right fit (size + slim or wide) and keep you quite warm, as you would expect from MTB gloves in winter.

SQlab is known for its ergonomic bike components, such as saddles, grips, handlebars and pedals, but for some time now the Taukirchen-based company has also been taking care of the other side, so to speak: clothing. After various bibs for women and men, SQlab now has MTB trousers and long gloves with a "hood" for the autumn.

SQ-Gloves One10: reliable MTB gloves for the winter

Gloves are not the product for the greatest innovations if you don't want it to be absurd. They either fit - or they don't. Either they keep you warm - or they don't. Whether you need integrated heating, a display or an auto-keycard is up to you, but fortunately SQlab has limited itself to the most important things. The SQ-Gloves One10 has a waterproof, thin and flexible palm that is supposed to provide reliable protection against the cold.

For particularly cold days or in the rain, the cuff on the wrist contains a rain cover that can be pulled over the four fingers. The index finger has a separate compartment so that the 5-finger gloves become Lobsters. The "hood" provides reliable protection from the rain and also keeps you warm.

What is already clear with the SQ-Gloves One10 is that they are based on the SQlab sizing concept for an optimum fit: Not only are sizes XS to XL available, but there is also a choice between Slim and Wide. SQlab offers help on the website or under the respective product to determine the individual size.

Basically, the division of sizes into slim and wide is an advantage, especially for gloves, because hands are very different. The SQ-Gloves One10 therefore fit very well in the correct selection (here M wide). This means that there is neither too much fabric, which creates uncomfortable creases, nor are the gloves too tight and restrict blood circulation, which would lead to cold hands. The fabric on the palm is pulled a little over the fingertips, which prevents irritating seams on the nails and keeps the fingertips warmer. The seams of the SQlab MTB gloves are also impeccably finished and there are no air holes or cold bridges.

As it rains a lot in autumn, the water resistance of the winter gloves is interesting. In light rain, the water doesn't run off the back of the hand, but the hands always stay dry - and warm too. When it really pours, the "overcoats" keep the water out, but not on the thumbs. Then it can get damp and cooler there - but everything is within the normal autumn range and not uncomfortable. Weighing in at around 75 grams, the SQ Gloves from SQlab will get you through the cold season - real waterproof winter gloves can easily weigh 50 grams (Gore Infinium) to 100 grams more (Chiba).

The large reflective prints on the SQlab gloves are also good: on the index finger and on the back of the hand - the company logo on the overglove is even larger. Operating a smartphone or GPS device works well. The neoprene cuff has a Velcro fastener, but even without it it is tight enough to prevent the cold from penetrating, but at the same time wide enough to allow the MTB glove to be put on and taken off easily.

The Upper Bavarian company SQlab praises the SQ-Pants One10 as the "one for all". The "regular fit" allows for everything from a cosy café ride to a wild chase on the trail. The MTB trousers actually have a very relaxed fit, can be easily adjusted with Velcro fasteners on the waistband and are held in place by a circumferential silicone strip. The width of the trouser legs can also be adjusted at the ankle with Velcro - but they remain relatively wide and "fluttery". It's a good thing that chain oil is not noticeable on black trousers...

Suitable according to SQlab for underneath is the SQ-short One10but also the One12R from the ergonomics expert. Any other bib will probably work under the SQ-Pants. The fabric of the MTB trousers does not bunch or rub. They are very comfortable to wear, even for the hours before or after the ride, unless you are wearing padded trousers. Some reflective details ensure safety - the 14 x 5 centimetre SQlab logo on the thigh in particular shines brightly when a light source hits it.

The SQ-Pants One10 are definitely windproof. They can also be worn at 10 degrees or even 3 degrees - provided you keep moving. The SQlab bike trousers are also said to be water-repellent. When new, this works quite well for spray rain and especially splash water. Everything rolls off and leaves little dirt behind. However, the trousers reach their limits on the bum when water and mud splash up and you get back on the saddle. Then it gets soggy on your bum. The SQ-Pants are therefore perfect for cool and dry days - when it rains, you need waterproof rain trousers - such as the dri1 Pants from Norrøna.

The material of the SQ-Pants MTB trousers is water-repellent. However, water will seep through if pressure is applied, such as on the saddle, or in heavy rain. Electrosmog shield in your pocket

Gimmick or really good? The MTB trousers from SQlab have two pockets, one of which is electrosmog-reducing for storing your smartphone and has a waterproof zip. Metal fibres are used to intercept mobile phone radiation.

This at least seems to have a strong effect on mobile phone and WLAN reception, meaning that electrosmog is indeed "trapped" in your pocket - but accessibility is also restricted as long as the phone is in your pocket.
