I was introduced to the small label from Stuttgart by my colleague Max, who, as the youngest member of the test team, always has his finger on the pulse of the times - whether in terms of clothing style or musical taste. Monserat not only has casual bike clothing with a fresh look in its range, but also pursues the most sustainable approach possible with recycled materials and production in Europe.
The Trailpants (TP3) are no different, of course, as they are made from 88 per cent Econyl, i.e. regenerated plastic that comes from Spain and can be recycled several times. The cut is sporty and casual with close-fitting leg cuffs and knee sections suitable for knee pads. A ratchet system is used as the fastening, which can be easily adjusted in width. Two strategically positioned zip pockets complete the features.
Once you've put these trail pants on, you won't want to take them off again. The lightweight material is pleasantly soft on the skin and offers a high degree of stretch, so they follow every movement on the bike without any problems. The trouser legs are close to perfect - nice and close-fitting without flapping and, above all, long enough so that the trousers don't constantly ride up to the calves when pedalling. The waistband is also cut slightly higher at the rear and stays well in place there.
The zips on the trouser pockets run particularly smoothly and can also be opened easily while riding. The pockets themselves are softly padded and prevent scratches on the smartphone.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the perfect size - 34 is just a My too wide. But with Monserat, that's not too bad, because the Stuttgart-based company offers two lengths as well as intermediate sizes. So there should be a suitable size for every body type.
The transverse seam just below the knees bothered me a little. Of course, it's not a problem with protectors. However, when I was out on the trail without protectors, the seam got in the way a little when pedalling. On warm days, a ventilation option wouldn't be a bad idea either, so the trousers are more of a suitable choice for the transition period or for enduro rides with a shuttle or days in the bike park.
+ many size options
+ great fit on the waistband and legs
+ pleasantly stretchy material
- somewhat expensive
- Cross seam below the knees can rub
