The biggest speciality: The Santa Cruz 5010 rolls uniformly on 27.5-inch wheels. This allows the bike to unfold its potential, especially under the dictates of playful riders. The 5010's specialities include fast corner changes, trail shenanigans and jumps, while the tried-and-tested VPP rear suspension works as confidently as on the 5010. no other bike in the test. The suspension meticulously filters out fine bumps and generates traction en masse. But even thick roots and steps are reliably absorbed by the suspension travel. This creates the feeling off-road that the rear suspension provides more than the specified 128 millimetres.
The geometry of the Santa Cruz 5010 is in tune with the times: slack head angle, steep seat angle and a moderate reach - that's just right. As long as the trails aren't too rough, the Santa Cruz is at the front of the pack. The tyre combination with MaxxGrip rubber compound on the front wheel offers excellent grip. In rough terrain and at high speeds, however, the smaller wheels are at a clear disadvantage. This is where the 29ers from Rocky Mountain, Canyon and Load with noticeably smoother running. On the climbs, the eccentric bike finally has to let the competition go. Due to the short chainstays and the high front of the 5010, you have to actively fight against the rising front wheel on steep trails. The high weight and the tough rolling behaviour of the tyres make pedal-intensive tours more difficult.
"Santa Cruz clearly steers the centre of gravity of the 5010 towards riding fun. Those who like tricks, jumping and playful riding will love the bike. However, kilometre-hungry or fast downhill riders won't get a hit here."
