Specialised is expanding its Turbo Vado product line with a new S-pedelec model. The Turbo Vado S is aimed specifically at commuters and, according to the manufacturer, should enable higher speeds with the same level of control, safety and comfort as the other Vados.
The centrepiece is the specially tuned Specialized 2.2 S engine with a whopping 90 Newton metres of torque, which supports a top speed of 45 kilometres per hour - and thus makes the insurance sticker ("moped licence plate") necessary.
The rated power is 250 watts. The battery is fully integrated into the down tube and, according to the manufacturer, can be locked in the bike or removed for storage. It has a generous capacity of 710 watt hours.
The Rockshox Recon Silver RL suspension fork offers the Specialized Turbo Vado S 80 millimetres of travel and is equipped with Motion Control damping. The cockpit includes a Specialized Stealth stem made of aluminium with a 14 degree angle and Specialized aluminium handlebars with a 15 degree offset and 46 millimetre rise. Ergon GA30 grips are used.
Power transmission is provided by a quiet, low-maintenance and clean Gates Carbon Drive belt drive. Stepless gear changes are handled by an Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Pro rear hub gear system with a gear range of 380 per cent. The Vado S is braked by TRP Zurich hydraulic four-piston disc brakes with 180 millimetre discs at the front and rear.
The wheels of this S-Pedelec consist of Specialized aluminium hubs, double-walled aluminium rims and DT Swiss Industry spokes. The tyres are Pathfinder Sport Reflect tyres in the comfort-promising dimension of 650B x 2.3 inches. A suspension seatpost, the Cane Creek Thudbuster ST, provides additional damping.
The Turbo Vado S from Specialized is equipped with numerous safety and comfort features. These include a Supernova M99 PRO headlight with extra high beam function, a Supernova M99 rear light with integrated brake light function and a horn. A radar system from Garmin is designed to warn of approaching vehicles. Specialised also installs a rear-view mirror on the handlebars and a stand.
Specialized has equipped the S-Pedelec Turbo Vado S with an integrated anti-theft system. According to the manufacturer, the motor can only be started via the Specialized app on the smartphone or with a personal PIN. An alarm signal should sound in the event of unauthorised access. The MasterMind TCD display on the handlebars offers Bluetooth connectivity and customisable display pages.
The Specialized Turbo Vado S is available in two frame variants: as a classic diamond frame model and as a step-through version with a low entry. Both versions are available in sizes S, M, L and XL and are painted in the colour combination Smoke / Black Reflective. The price for each is 6000 euros. Specialized specifies a weight of 28.09 kilograms for the top tube model and 28.17 kilograms for the step-through version (both in size M).
