To develop the Scott Silence eRide, the Swiss company brought in expert advice from the renowned futurologist and mobility researcher Dr Stefan Carsten. Together, they first had to clarify the fundamental questions on the subject of modern mobility: What do we expect from mobility in urban areas in the future? How do we move easily, elegantly and stylishly in urban structures?
The next society is mobile - and we are facing the next e-bike mobility. We need to shape the transition to this with new products, services, perspectives and approaches. The bicycle and the e-bike will epitomise a flexible mobility culture. - Mobility researcher Dr Stefan Carsten
Studies show that up to 70% of daily journeys by car could be replaced by an e-bike. This makes the e-bike a central element of future mobility. In metropolises such as Paris, more commuters from the suburbs are already using bikes or e-bikes instead of cars to get into the city. But how can this change also be achieved in German cities? To reach urban trendsetters and the aspiring middle class, factors such as the current zeitgeist, aesthetics, fashion, design and technological innovations are becoming increasingly important. Many people are striving for more elegance and style when getting around. This is exactly where the new Scott Silence eRide comes in: The innovative e-urban bike not only marks the start of a new product category for the brand, but also aims to support the move towards the mobility of the future.
In recent years, the aesthetic appearance of e-bikes has improved considerably. The motor and battery of the Scott Silence eRide are therefore discreetly housed in the frame, making the bike almost indistinguishable from an ordinary bike at first glance: it is elegant, slim and has a high standard of design. The specially designed handlebars allow cables to be routed completely internally, resulting in a tidy cockpit and a clear, elegant look. In addition to the design, the focus of the new e-bike is clearly on comfort and suitability for everyday use. It is equipped with all the necessary features for city traffic. These include a powerful front light, an integrated rear light, a minimalist front carrier, lightweight and robust mudguards and ergonomic grips for maximum comfort.
An urban e-bike should be easy to take anywhere - without being restricted by its weight or handling. For this reason, the Scott Silence has been trimmed to a weight of just 14.5 kilograms thanks to its carbon frame and the particularly light TQ motor. Small everyday barriers such as stairs in the city or the lift to the office are no longer a challenge. The balance of low weight, high frame rigidity and comfort should ensure safe and agile riding behaviour.
The motor of the Scott Silence is characterised by its extremely low noise level. In combination with the natural pedalling feel, it gives cyclists in the city the impression of being on a conventional bike - only with less effort. The motor provides electric assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h. However, thanks to its light weight and minimal pedalling resistance, the bike can also be ridden at higher speeds - or the assistance can be switched off completely at times.
The 250 W motor from the German manufacturer TQ provides additional support on every ride. With a weight/power ratio of 1.8 kg at 50 Nm, it offers optimum efficiency. The associated 360 Wh battery is discreetly integrated into the down tube and is designed to charge up to 80% in just two hours. If required, this can be supplemented by an additional 160 Wh range extender. This additional battery, which is designed like a water bottle, can be exchanged for a water bottle holder without tools using a special Scott quick-release system.
The e-bike is increasingly becoming an individual lifestyle companion, with personalisation becoming ever more important. The Scott Silence can be connected to a smartphone via an app, which offers numerous advantages and makes it easy to customise and control the bike. A pre-set motor tuning can be customised either for a longer battery life or for maximum performance. For example, the motor response time can be extended or shortened to create a personalised riding experience. In addition, the display can be customised and control tones can be switched on or off.
Motor manufacturer TQ attaches particular importance to device connectivity and has integrated a minimalist display in the top tube. The LED display shows all the key information at a glance, such as the battery status in per cent, the remaining range in kilometres and the current mode. Thanks to the integrated power meter, the cadence and wattage can also be read off. For safe navigation, the Scott Silence is also equipped with a mobile phone holder on the stem, which is compatible with mobile phone cases from SP Connect. Furthermore, the integrated ANT+ enables a connection with bike computers from brands such as Garmin, Hammerhead or Wahoo.
