S-pedelecs are e-bikes that provide assistance up to a speed of 45 km/h, but are no longer bicycles. Are the fast e-bikes also suitable as e-mountain bikes?

S-pedelecs are authorised with an output of 500 watts (instead of 250 watts) and for up to 45 km/h. Compared to normal e-mountain bikes (legally pedelecs), however, you need an insurance licence plate and a class M driving licence (test certificate).

S-Pedelecs: No off-road use!

S-pedelecs are available in all possible categories, including fully equipped e-MTBs. But there's a catch: S-Pedelecs are no longer legally considered bicycles. That is why you are only allowed to ride them on public roads. They are not even officially permitted on cycle paths. In addition, you are not allowed to simply tinker with S-Pedelecs or replace parts. This is because they are motor vehicles and every add-on part must be authorised.

S-Pedelecs They therefore only have a very small range of use. They are not suitable for off-road e-mountainbike use, as they may not be ridden on forest and mountain paths away from road traffic. Mountain biking is therefore impossible with these fast e-bikes!
