The Spark version, optimised for rough terrain, not only won the BIKE trail bike test, but also impressed the readers. The Scott Spark scored with its mix of downhill performance, acceleration and low weight.

The trail version of the Scott Spark is based on the same frame platform as the Nino Schurter's World Cup weapon Spark RCwith the shock absorber integrated in the bottom bracket area. While the rear suspension travel is identical (factory specification 120 millimetres), only a ten millimetre longer suspension fork is used. As a result, Scott hardly has to compromise on the geometry of the Spark 900 in order to create two bikes from one platform.

The seat angle is sufficiently steep at 76.2 degrees and the reach is long enough at 468 millimetres. The slack 66 degree head angle also fits perfectly into the trail bike category, and despite the 130 mm fork, the bottom bracket is low enough for a pleasantly low centre of gravity. Not only are you nicely integrated into the bike, but the low front end also gives you a propulsion-orientated pedalling position with plenty of pressure on the front wheel. This is where the close relationship to the Spark RC becomes clear. Even when open, the rear suspension remains surprisingly smooth and generates the best propulsion. The wheels with the harmonious trail tyres also get going easily and make the 900 series of the Scott Spark for a fast ride. Downhill, the rear suspension impresses with its sensitivity and good absorption capacity.

The low cockpit, cranked far back, takes some getting used to.

The Scott trail bike is available in Seven model variants available. The Spark 940 is the cheapest version at 3799 euros. At the other end is the Spark 900 Ultimate Evo AXS for 13499 euros, which, as the name suggests, has a Sram AXS groupset including TyreWiz tyre pressure sensors. The brakes on the top model in the Scott Spark 900 series are fitted with the coveted Trickstuff Piccola HD.

With 31 per cent of the votes, the Scott Spark secured first place in the trail bike category. In second place comes the Canyon Lux Trail with 26.1 per cent and in third place the Trek Top Fuel with 17.4 per cent of the vote.
