Men who stare at goats
The Forcheim-based mail-order company YT presented the third version of its successful Capra (Latin for "goat") enduro bike and proclaimed with a broad chest: "It's the best enduro bike in the world."

It all started with the goat in 2014! That's when YT presents the first Capra and caused quite a stir with it. The enduro bike not only worked great, it also looked damn stylish - and completely different from the competition. It rained down test wins and top marks from the trade press. YT gave its best-selling enduro bike a facelift in 2018 and polished the driving characteristics to the latest state of the art. Also a success!

So now the third evolutionary stage of the Capra. YT let us test the new models in the California of Germany: in South Baden. We let the Capra climb, gallop, jump and drop on the fun trails in Freiburg - and, as you'd expect, we were pretty impressed. YT has succeeded in giving the Capra a wider range of use: It climbs better thanks to a steeper seat angle, but rattles very confidently downhill. However, we can't yet say how it performs against the best enduro bikes on the market, for that we'll have to check it out in a big comparison test.

The MX version has shorter chainstays and greater end progression (433 mm in size L), while the 29er version is longer at 438 millimetres, which reduces the progression somewhat.Photo: Ale Di Lullo The MX version has shorter chainstays and greater end progression (433 mm in size L), while the 29er version is longer at 438 millimetres, which reduces the progression somewhat. To position the rider further forwards when climbing, the seat angle is now a steep 77-78 degrees and the steering angle between 64 - 64.5 degrees. The reach has also increased slightly. In size L, YT specifies 467 - 470 millimetres depending on the flipchip setting, which means that the Capra should still feel manageable. The Capra Launch Edition is available as an MX version and in frame sizes M to XXL - limited to 100 bikes worldwide. The Capra Core 4 and Capra Core 3 models are available in all sizes from S to XXL in both 29er and MX versions. The 29er version comes with 170 mm travel at the front and 165 mm at the rear, while the MX has 170 mm travel on the fork and 170 mm on the 27.5-inch rear wheel for even more downhill reserves. "The large front wheel improves stability and rollover behaviour, while the 27.5-inch wheel still delivers the playfulness and agility that many of our customers love about the 27.5. Our development team has tested both options extensively and we feel that the MX version really offers the best of both worlds. We have also received a lot of positive feedback over the last two years from Decoy-owners who have been travelling with a wheel mix on the E-Enduro right from the start," explains Markus Flossmann, founder of YT.

Delivery YT Capra 2021

Direct mail order company YT has also introduced a new option for pre-ordering bikes with the Capra. Customers who pre-order a bike with a lead time of more than eight weeks can pay ten per cent of the purchase price to reserve their bike. The remaining amount is not due until four weeks before delivery - with the deposit, you effectively secure a place in the queue. Orders can of course be cancelled at any time and the full amount will then be refunded. YT expects the first Capra bikes to be delivered at the end of 2021 and production figures to increase significantly in early 2022. Customers can see the expected delivery date directly when ordering and the bikes will be dispatched in the order in which the deposits are received.
