The Kitzbühel region has added a spectacular attraction to its mountain bike network: 4 June saw the launch of the Kirchberg Trail, the longest flow trail in Tyrol at around ten kilometres in length. The new route leads from the Fleckalmbahn mountain station directly into the valley and adds another highlight to the 360° Flow Trails network.
With an average gradient of 9.6 per cent, the trail was designed as an easy to moderately difficult mountain bike trail. Gentle berms, playful waves, small bridges and optional rideable elements ensure a harmonious rhythm - ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy uninterrupted flow. The offer is aimed specifically at beginners, families and leisure bikers, but also appeals to experienced riders.
As a perfect top-to-bottom ride, the Kirchberg Trail is the perfect addition to the region's existing offerings. New combination options are created with established routes such as the Fleckalm Trail, the Lisi Osl Trail, the Sonnenrast Trails or the Hahnenkamm Trail. Along the route, refreshment stops such as the Ochsalm, the Bergschenke Krin or the Maierl-Alm invite you to take a break.
Sustainability played a central role in the realisation: planning and construction were carried out according to environmentally friendly trail building standards and in close coordination with nature conservation, forestry and landowners.
The new trail is part of a comprehensive mountain bike offer: a total of around 800 kilometres of trails await bikers in Kitzbühel. The spectrum ranges from classic mountain tours to longer off-road circuits. The different route profiles and the close proximity to the Alpine landscape are characteristic of the area. The Saukaser-Pengelstein circular tour is one of the more challenging recommendations.
The mountain bike area is just one part of the region's extensive cycle tourism programme:
Over 80 accessible excursion destinations offer options ranging from leisurely trekking tours to extensive cycle tours. The Salvenbergrunde is a particular favourite.
Between gravel paths, forest roads and alpine panoramas, gravel bikers will find a variety of conditions. As part of the "Gravel Austria" tour, the region is included in one of the most extensive gravel programmes in Austria.
With around 1,200 kilometres of road bike tours, Kitzbühel is a hotspot for road bikers. The tour up the Kitzbüheler Horn is legendary: with a gradient of up to 22.3 per cent, the climb is considered the "steepest cycling mountain in Austria". On 18 hairpin bends, 7.1 kilometres and 876 metres in altitude, stamina and fitness are required above all.
Professional bike guides, hire options, a 360° bike map with Komoot integration and lift-supported access via the Hahnenkammbahn, Fleckalmbahn, Sonnenrastbahn and Gaisbergbahn round off the offer. Further information: bike.kitzbuehel.com
