Riva electrifies: Highlights from the lake
Testing, looking, talking shop: manufacturers present their latest creations at the BIKE Festival in Riva. EMTB spent three days travelling around Lake Garda.

Radon Deft

Premiere at the Lago! The Bonn-based mail order company Radon has new E-Enduro launched to coincide with the festival on Lake Garda. With 170 millimetres of travel and large 29-inch wheels, the bike ensures massive downhill stability, but thanks to relatively long chainstays and Bosch's Smart System, performance on the climbs is not neglected either. The bike was already available for all bikers to test in Riva.

The Deft 9.0 for € 5999 is the middle model in the range. It comes with a carbon main frame, Bosch's Smart System and Fox's Performance Elite suspension with adjustable high and low-speed compression. The weight is 24.7 kilograms in size L.Photo: Adrian Kaether The Deft 9.0 for € 5999 is the middle model in the range. Fazua Ride 60

Although there are no e-MTBs with the brand new motor from Fazua yet, there was still a lot of interest in the Ride 60 in Riva. The drive aims to take the topic of light e-MTBs to a new level. We were the only magazine in the world to have a closer look at the system in advance. More information can be found here and in EMTB 2/2022.

Continental Gravity Series

Tyre manufacturer Continental has completely renewed its range of robust tyres. Five tread patterns, three carcasses and three rubber compounds are available for use in serious off-road terrain. We are curious to see whether more e-MTB manufacturers will be using the German tyres again in the future. We subjected the all-round combination of Kryptotal front and rear to an initial test at the Bosch E-MTB Challenge. The first impression is promising!

Canyon Spectral:ON CFR

The brand new Spectral:On is one of the big attractions of the 22 E-MTB year. In Riva, visitors had the chance to test the bike with its giant 900cc battery off-road. The bike has already scored highly in our test. Get all the details in this detailed online report, the complete test results in EMTB 2/2022.

Suntour Durolux 38

SR Suntour sets its sights on e-mountainbikers. Like the 38 mm Fox and Rockshox' ZEB, the stiff new Duroxlux 38 comes with 38 millimetre wide stanchions and particularly robust casting. The damping should also be specially optimised for use on E-MTBs. At the rear, the fork is complemented by the new Tri-Air-2 damper. Its reservoir sits transversely in front of the damper to leave more space for voluminous down tubes. Wide bushings and many steel parts are intended to ensure a particularly high level of stiffness.

Mavic

Mavic is expanding its product range with the new E-Deemax wheels. At around 400 euros, the E-Deemax are significantly cheaper than the E-Deemax S (790 euros) presented last year, but also a good 200 grams heavier. Like their more expensive brother, the E-Deemax come with 28 spokes, a wide rim flange for more puncture protection and a coarser ratchet freehub for maximum durability. Impressive: The wheels are approved for a system weight of up to 180 kilograms.

Unlike the E-Deemax S, the E-Deemax still rely on rim tape for tubeless, but are otherwise technically similar, albeit slightly heavier. Pirelli Scorpion E-MTB

Italian tyre specialist Pirelli has relaunched its Scorpion E-MTB models. The tread, rubber and carcass have been thoroughly revised. The sidewall is designed to be very stable to enable e-bikers to use low air pressure with strong puncture protection. In addition, great importance was attached to durability and rolling resistance for the specific e-tyres. The Scorpion M and Scorpion R models come in the E-MTB version in a 2.6 tyre width.

Conway Xyron Carbon

The carbon version of the Xyron with Bosch's Smartsystem was announced last autumn, but the production bike was finally on show in Riva. Compared to the aluminium model, which we have already tested, it is not just the frame material that has changed. With an MX wheel set, shorter rear end and more suspension travel, the bike is significantly sportier. We were able to pack a test bike in Riva and will be taking a closer look at the stylish bike for our next print issue!

Thok LTD Yellow-Edition

The Italian direct mail order company Thok presented two limited special models of its MIG and TK01 bikes at the festival. The theme: yellow and black, like the sophisticated suspension elements from Swedish suspension specialists Öhlins. Only 50 of these two bikes are to be produced in total. In addition to the high-quality Öhlins suspension elements, buyers can look forward to high-quality equipment and an accessory box with many helpful gadgets. The two numbered models with Shimano EP8 drivetrain are available exclusively on the Thok website.

Of course, there was also riding at the festival! For example at our EMTB exhibitor ride.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
