Not a bike for everyone! Rotwild rightly markets the gravity model in its range of lightweight e-MTBs as a bike for specialists. With a long wheelbase, super-slack head angle and plenty of travel, the R.G 375 Pro demands an experienced rider behind the handlebars who can really let rip on steep trails. Light-footed handling on tame trails, which is actually the core competence of light eMTBs, is something you won't find here.
Nevertheless, handling is a strength of the Hessian E-MTB, provided you have enough speed. In the test, the suspension was also convincing, leaving nothing to be desired with its great mix of popping and plush handling. The range of the E-Downhiller with the small battery is rather short at full throttle, but this is also due to the fully-fledged Shimano drive with up to 85 Newton metres at its peak. For bike park days and trail centres, simply put a removable battery in the boot, as it can be installed in no time at all thanks to Rotwild's clever battery concept.
Due to its aversion to flat and tame trails, the Red Deer R.G 375 Pro is certainly a special light eMTB. But clearly a worthy and, with almost 57 per cent of the votes, also a very clear winner in the readers' choice for Light-E-MTB of the Year 2022. Aluminium Rise H30 from Orbea took second place in the Light-E-MTB of the Year category with 19.2 per cent of the votes, while third place went to the Trek E-Caliber 9.9 XTR with Fazua engine.
