A long negative stem, sporty CC tyres and a voluminous and lightweight carbon frame virtually pin the starting number to the handlebars of the Cube Reaction. No other hardtail in the test field scores more points on the climbs or accelerates more nimbly. With less than twelve kilos on the scales and the sporty riding position, the Cube is in a league of its own.
However, due to the low front end and the classically steep head angle, there are more confident downhillers in the test field. The only carbon frame in the test and the high level of comfort (thin 27.2-millimetre seat post) are convincing across the board. On the other hand, the equipment is rather meagre. Although the SR Suntour fork responds well, it can in no way compete with a Fox fork like the one in the test field. Canyon Grand Canyon or Stevens Sentiero can hold a candle to it. You also have to accept a lower gear range with the favourable 12-speed Sram drivetrain.
In our overview article Hardtails from 1199 to 1799 euros: 9 sporty entry-level hardtails in the test you will find all the bikes tested.
If you are a beginner looking for a race bike with convincing propulsion and enjoy riding uphill, you will definitely be happy with the Cube Reaction C:62 One. The frame offers a very good basis for tuning.
