Centurion is expanding its e-bike range with the new Backfire Fit, a versatile e-mountainbike designed for both everyday use and light off-road excursions. The manufacturer has placed particular emphasis on a low standover height for this model, which it says provides greater freedom of movement and a secure feeling when getting on and off the bike. The Backfire Fit combines a slightly sporty character with features suitable for everyday use and is therefore aimed at riders who are looking for a reliable e-MTB for various areas of use.
The Lhasa and Numinis full-suspension touring bikes are also getting a slight overhaul. Both bikes were only relaunched this year with the latest fifth-generation Bosch CX (here are the details). The Lhasa SUV fully has now been given a subtly revised look with new colours and partly adapted equipment. The Numinis e-MTB with a full 140 millimetres of suspension travel and corresponding suitability for difficult terrain has been given a new top model with Bosch's innovative Trail Pro ABS system and Shimano XT brakes in the form of the R3000. Equipped with this, the Numinis R3000 costs 6899 euros according to list price.
At the heart of the Backfire Fit is a frame optimised using the finite element method (FEM), which, according to the manufacturer, should impress with its high rigidity and stability. This computer-aided design method enables precise material distribution for optimum load-bearing capacity with harmonious proportions. This has long been standard in other industries, but has so far been the exception for bicycles with short production cycles. Centurion states that the frame is approved for a total weight of up to 150 kg and emphasises its confidence in the quality with a lifetime guarantee.
For the motorisation, Centurion relies on the further developed Bosch Performance Line CX drive, which offers up to 100 Nm of torque and a peak output of 750 watts. It is characterised by quiet riding noise and good modulation combined with high dynamics. It is controlled via the LED remote or a Purion display from Bosch and via the E-Bike Flow app. A Kiox screen is available on the more expensive models.
Centurion offers two battery capacity options: The R2000 model is equipped with an 800 Wh battery as standard, while the R1000 offers a choice between 600 Wh and 800 Wh. The choice of battery capacity can be made according to individual riding style, typical route profile and personal preferences. For easy charging, the charging socket is ergonomically positioned and equipped with a magnetically closing flap that protects against splash water and dirt. A special hide function allows the charging flap to be retracted into the seat tube during the charging process or when connecting an optional PowerMore additional battery.
The features of the Backfire Fit are designed for versatility and durability. A robust suspension fork with 110 mm travel ensures comfort on uneven surfaces and is designed to reliably absorb bumps on roads, cycle paths and forest tracks. According to Centurion, the 29-inch, 2.3-inch wide MTB tyres offer a good compromise between low rolling resistance, high puncture protection and reliable grip. For additional comfort, a seat post that can be lowered completely and operated from the handlebars is installed, which should be particularly practical when stopping at traffic lights or during spontaneous stops.
The shifting components are durable Linkglide components from Shimano, which have been specially developed for e-bike use and are designed to offer long-lasting shifting performance and a wide range of gear ratios. The Centurion Pro II crank with matching chainring should not only impress with its low weight, but also with its harmonious overall appearance.
The Backfire Fit is equipped with the CENTURION Halo Mini rear light for greater safety in poor lighting conditions. This integrates beautifully into the frame design and, with its 12 LEDs, ensures excellent visibility from all directions and from a great distance. To protect the chainstays from knocks and scratches on bumpy surfaces, Silent Protection technology is used, which is equipped with continuous air chambers and is also designed to reduce unwanted noise. Here, as with the drivetrain, Centurion has orientated itself on the performance-oriented E-MTBs from its own company.
The drive is protected by a striking Air-Flow motor cover with generous air intakes, which is designed to ensure optimum cooling and at the same time offer protection against stone chips and dirt. Depending on the model variant, the Backfire Fit is equipped with the Kiox 300 display and LED remote or the Purion 200, which provide a wide range of information and operating options. A USB-C interface integrated into the top tube, the so-called Energy Port, enables devices such as smartphones to be charged directly on the bike.
The EQ models of the Backfire Fit are equipped with additional features for everyday use. Depending on the model, the CENTURION Racktime SNAPIT 2.0 Pro or the Deluxe rack is used, which is equipped with an integrated Halo rear light. The SNAPIT 2.0 adapter system is designed to allow compatible bags or baskets to be attached quickly and easily. For increased flexibility when carrying luggage, the rack can be optionally equipped with a second loading level and an additional strut for increased load capacity. These details make the Backfire Fit a versatile everyday companion that is also suitable for longer tours with luggage and at the same time has the necessary robustness for trips into light terrain.
Centurion offers the Backfire Fit in various equipment variants, which differ in details such as display, battery capacity and additional equipment. The R2000 comes with the 800 Wh battery as standard, while the R1000 offers a choice between 600 Wh and 800 Wh. The EQ models are also equipped with pannier racks and extended lighting, making them particularly suitable for everyday use. An optional version of the motor cover suitable for the Bosch ConnectModule is available for some models, which enables additional connectivity functions. With this variety of options, the Backfire Fit can be customised to suit personal needs and purposes, whether as a sporty companion for after-work tours or as a reliable means of transport in everyday life with occasional off-road excursions.
