With the innovative CX and PX motors from Bosch and ABS systems, the new Country line from Centurion is a true technology leader. However, the touring e-bikes show their strengths in the details in particular. With less weight, more rigidity and improved suspension, they aim to set new standards for comfort on bike tours.

"The benchmark among full-suspension step-through bikes". Did we take a wrong turn? Centurion is usually known for Swabian understatement, but now head of development Hannes Genze is running his mouth. And rightly so, as we will find out later.

The fact is: Centurion has completely redesigned the successful Country LX model with full suspension and low step-through. The frame with invisible weld seams and integrated chain guard has been given a stylish and modern look. Thanks to finite element calculations, Centurion has been able to make the step-through even wider and lower, the integration of the shock behind the seat tube even slimmer and still save a good half a kilogramme on the frame. That's a word! The S-frame is particularly compact for small people.

High-quality equipment and fresh Bosch power

The bottom bracket houses the new, extra quiet motor generation from Bosch with Performance Line PX and CX motors, including a long range 800 battery. The new PX touring motor is used on the R900, while the R2000 models rely on the even more powerful CX. The LX does not skimp on comfort. The battery can be conveniently removed from the top of the frame. A dropper post is also on board, as are large displays and even ABS on the top model. In addition to a bottle cage, the range extender or a front carrier with matching bag can also be mounted on the head tube.

Centurion has developed extra-wide mudguards to provide sufficient tyre clearance even with wide SUV and mountain bike tyres. They are already being used in the Numinis EQ SUV, which has already been awarded the sports tip in our test. The suspension travel on the LX is now a whopping 120 millimetres. That's a lot for a step-through bike. The same applies to the weight allowance of 150 kilograms.

Maximum ride comfort and top steering behaviour

And the bike rides with corresponding confidence. The deliberately comfort-orientated suspension setup pays off with a ride that feels like the proverbial flying carpet. Without having a direct comparison: But we have never experienced a step-through bike that is so sensitive and at the same time so forgiving of big bumps.

The riding position on the Country LX is pleasantly upright. The ergonomics and saddle are just as pleasing as the sensibly chosen equipment. Our test bike even comes with ABS, which, in combination with Shimano's four-piston brakes, enables not only powerful but also safe braking manoeuvres even on slippery surfaces. The stiffness is also remarkably good for a step-through bike. We have not yet been able to test the bike with panniers. But unloaded, the steering hardly wobbles even at high speeds. So it's quite possible that the Centurion is indeed setting new standards here.

Also new: Country L and Country T

In addition to the technical flagship Country LX with full suspension, Centurion is also relaunching the touring bikes Country L (step-through) and the Country T (trapezoidal frame). Both bikes have similar features to the LX. They are powered by the new Bosch generation with Performance Line PX and CX motors. They also get the top tube interface for front racks etc., the wide mudguards and ABS in co-operation with Shimano brakes in the top models. The Country L is also available with a belt and Enviolo automatic gears. Prices range from 3799 (Country T) to 5899 euros (Country L R4000).

Conclusion on the Country LX from Centurion

After a short test ride in the Black Forest, the Country LX leaves us with an excellent impression. High-quality workmanship and with great suspension and components, the bike is right up to date. The price, even for the top model LX R2000, remains comparatively fair in view of the full suspension and ABS. - Adrian Kaether, Test Manager MYBIKE
