Bosch's Smart System has a lot going for it. Plenty of power, great modulation, many features, good range. The Swabian drive system now even allows you to customise individual riding modes using an app. But it has one major disadvantage: the weight. The long battery in particular is a problem for bike manufacturers and makes it difficult to design lightweight e-mountainbikes.
It is therefore all the more surprising that Cube has even managed to slightly slim down the 2022 Stereo Hybrid 140 with Smart System compared to its predecessor with a 625 watt-hour battery. For example, the new TM model - the abbreviation for Cube's aggressive Trail Motion series - weighs a few hundred grams less than its little brother with a 625 watt-hour battery. And this is despite the grippy and puncture-proof tyres on the new bike and despite the overall more stable equipment.
And it is precisely with these accents on the tyres, suspension and equipment that the Cube Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 rides straight into the hearts of testers and readers. The Assegai tyre in the grippy Maxx Grip compound on the front wheel and the powerful Magura MT7 provide a lot of confidence on the descents. The geometry gives the Cube Stereo uncomplicated and good-natured handling and lightweight Newmen wheels are on top. The price of 5399 euros for a bike with Smart System and Fox suspension would be fine as it is. A well-deserved price-performance tip in our reader test in EMTB 3/2022 and a clear winner in the All Mountain / Trail category in the readers' poll for EMTB of the Year 2022.
The Cube secured 37.4 per cent of the readers' votes, with the All Mountain coming in second place. Santa Cruz Heckler CC with 24.7 per cent of the vote. Third place went to the Patron E-Ride 900 Tuned from Scott.
