The relaunched Giant Trance X Advanced comes with fresh features this season and aims to compete with the BIKE tip from the last test in BIKE 6/21 to tie in with this. At first glance, the price increase of 700 euros is particularly striking, which is in line with the current price trend. On the other hand, the equipment has been completely adapted. Instead of Rockshox suspension, Fox suspension elements are used. Shifting is done with Shimano SLX components, which increases the range compared to the Sram NX. The previously groupless Shimano brakes have also been upgraded to Deore level. The highlight continues to be Giant's own carbon rims, which keep the wheel weight manageable despite the solid Maxxis tyres.
In direct comparison to the competition, however, the equipment still lags somewhat behind. All the better that Giant can score points with a carbon frame weighing just 2391 grams. Downhill, the Trance X sets the tone together with the much more expensive Stumpjumper Pro reference bike from Specialized. You are deeply embedded in the bike, which conveys a lot of riding confidence. The long reach and long wheelbase also calm down fast and steep sections. The suspension works sensitively and even feels like it has more travel. Complaining on a high level: We would have liked to have an adjustable compression damping on the rear suspension for a little more counter-pressure in the mid-range. Uphill, the Trance X cuts a decent figure and is easy to pedal. The steep seat tube angle puts pressure on the front wheel, but the riding position is not too short. The grippy tyres and the slightly nodding rear end prevent a better grade in the uphill evaluation.
The Giant Trance X has its strengths on the descents and impresses with its confident handling and sensitive suspension. Even though there are faster bikes on the climbs, it still fits the All Mountain category very well and takes the test victory in our All-mountain comparison test in BIKE 3/2022.

Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in EMTB. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them - hundreds of thousands of euros every year.
