Since February 2023, Zwift has had a new world in Scotland - where the 2023 World Cycling Championships will take place. We have compiled the details of the virtual routes on the indoor cycling platform.

The online training platform Zwift has launched a new training world in Scotland. This world was specially developed for the UCI Cycling E-Sports World Championships on 18 February 2023 and includes five different routes. Inspired by the city of Glasgow and the picturesque Scottish landscape, this virtual environment also serves as preparation for the 2023 World Cycling Championships, which will be held in Scotland in August.

New Zwift world

The new Zwift world was available for the first time during the 8th stage of the Tour de Zwift from 3 to 12 February. To explore the new world, Ride Scotland and Race Scotland events were planned, which took place from 6 February to 7 March. In addition, the ZRacing series also took place in this new world in February. Participants who took part in a ZRacing or Ride Scotland event on the new map unlocked the exclusive Zwift Tartan Cycling Kit as a reward. From the beginning of March, the Scotland World was also available for Free Rides, Club Events and Meetups.

Scotland World by Zwift: These routes are available

These five routes are designed to provide variety and fun for indoor cycling.

Rolling Highlands - 14.1 kilometres, 105 vertical metres

The course runs along a lake and includes several hills. The course is designed in such a way that there are many opportunities for attacks.

City and the Sgurr - 8.6 kilometres, 161 vertical metres

The name "Sgurr" comes from the Scottish Gaelic and means "rocky summit". On this route, this rocky peak is approached from both directions.

Glasgow Crit Circuit - 3 kilometres, 33 vertical metres

The criterium course in Glasgow offers a route that is not too demanding and gives an impression of the typical characteristics of the city.

Loch Loop - 8 kilometres, 71 vertical metres

The route has been designed specifically for time trials and offers only a few gentle hills to break up the roller course. In addition, Zwift offers an alternative flatter route of the Loch Loop to the Rolling Highlands, which is ideal for classic races or training sessions.

The Muckle Yin - 25.1 kilometres, 279 vertical metres

The route starts in the heart of Glasgow and takes a challenging route that emphasises the beauty of the Scottish landscape. From there, it follows steep cliffs along the west coast of Scotland and onwards to the north.

Zwift & World Cycling Championships 2023 in Glasgow

Zwift is the official virtual fitness platform of the 2023 World Cycling Championships, which will take place in Scotland from 3 to 23 August. The new Zwift World is an extension of the upcoming Cycling World Championships and is also the first venue created specifically for an e-sports race.

The virtual world aims to emphasise that Scotland is an attractive destination for cyclists. Cycling is emphasised as a sustainable travel option that allows people to spend their leisure time actively and contributes to improving their mental and physical health.
