If you're looking for a well-equipped mountain bike at an affordable price, the Canyon Neuron CF 8.0 is the bike for you. For less than 3000 euros, the Koblenz-based mail order company sends a trail bike with a carbon frame into our price-performance comparison. The BIKE test reveals how good a deal the Canyon is.

The Canyon Neuron has already been crowned BIKE test winner in a wide range of equipment variants. The trail bike with 140 millimetres of front and rear travel has been continuously optimised over the years. In the price-performance comparison, the Koblenz-based company is sending a particularly attractive model with a carbon frame and proven Shimano SLX equipment - the grey VW Golf among trail bikes, so to speak.

You can't go far wrong with that, can you? That's right! The Canyon Neuron CF 8.0 wins the highly coveted Price-performance tip off. In the detailed BIKE test, we explain why this bargain convinced us in the lab and in practice.

The Canyon Neuron CF 8.0 on test: how the affordable trail bike rides

In terms of handling, the Canyon Neuron CF 8.0 hardly puts a foot wrong. It takes climbs in its stride with its balanced seating position and a drive-neutral chassis casually. With a barely acceptable
weight and smooth rolling tyres, even long tours are fun. The Canyon also strikes a happy medium when it comes to downhill handling. The geometry table gets by without extreme values. Manoeuvrable and at the same time smooth-running, it feels at home on everything from easy flow trails to root tracks.

The jack-of-all-trades can even cope with an excursion into enduro terrain. Although the Neuron with its thin-walled tyres and limited reserves clearly remains a trail bike, the suspension travel can be put to excellent use. The suspension sensitively absorbs even small stones and at the same time offers a pleasant pop on jumps or other tricks. On steep sections, the high front end prevents rollovers

The Canyon Neuron CF 8.0: performance instead of extravagance

At the end of the day, there is one thing you could criticise the model pupil for: It lacks the rough edges, the rock 'n' roll, so to speak. The strengths and weaknesses of other trail bikes give them personality. In contrast, the Neuron, with its extremely neutral character, feels a little less racy on the emotional level.
