Trek gets on board: With a new sponsor and a new line-up, the former MTB team Centurion-Vaude and manager Bernd Reutemann will take to the starting line in 2021.

The MTB team, led by Bernd Reutemann, took the following route under the name Centurion-Vaude always paved with success. Seven consecutive victories at the BIKE Transalp, several podium finishes at world championships, the legendary Cape Epic and numerous national championships as well as victory at the first official German E-Bike Championships in 2020 are all part of the racing team from Baden-Württemberg.

Following Centurion's withdrawal from professional racing last year, a new bike sponsor has now been found in Trek, with whom the team will compete in the cross-country (XCO), marathon (XCM), cyclocross (CX) and e-mountainbike (E-MTB) disciplines. In addition to taking part in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo with at least two athletes, Trek-Vaude says it also has its sights set on the U23 overall World Cup and wants to continue to achieve success in national championships and prestigious stage races.

"Our goal is to lead athletes to the top of the world and establish them there," says Team Manager Bernd Reutemann, summarising the team's motivation. He has a completely new team at his disposal to achieve these goals. With a mixture of experienced and young athletes from Germany, Austria and Namibia, he believes that Team Trek-Vaude is broadly positioned.

Supercaliber: Trek-Vaude team bike

In most races, the team will rely on the Trek Supercalibre set. With a minimalist 60 millimetres of rear suspension travel, it bridges the gap between hardtail and fully. The concept was convincing and was voted Bike of the Year in the Marathon category by BIKE readers in 2020 elected.

Of course, the team bike does not remain in standard trim, but is instead fitted with the finest add-on parts from the sponsors. The basis is the Supercaliber-Cabon frame, plus the in-house Bontrager cockpit. In addition to suspension forks, the team receives Vario seat posts and wheels from DT Swiss. The tyres are supplied by Schwalbe, the drivetrain elements by Sram. The derailleur cages and bearings are from CeramicSpeed. The power meter is supplied by Power2Max.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
