On Friday, the time had finally come: the BIKE Festival Willingen has started its 23rd round after a two-year break due to the pandemic. The mood among the numerous visitors, exhibitors and organisers was accordingly exuberant.
The guests of honour at the official opening were also delighted. Publisher Konrad Delius, Mayor Thomas Trachte, Member of the State Parliament Jan-Wilhelm Pohlmann, Member of the District Council Rainer Hesse and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BIKE Magazine Stefan Frey opened the 23rd BIKE Festival in Willingen with great euphoria at 12 noon.
"It was very painful that the BIKE Festival in Willingen couldn't take place for the last two years. So it's all the nicer that the event can be held again," said a delighted Konrad Delius together with the numerous visitors.
Thomas Trachte also emphasised how great it was to be able to welcome the BIKE Festival back to Willingen. "As full-blooded tourism experts in Willingen, we are particularly pleased to have so many people in the town again. We will enjoy the BIKE Festival to the full," promised the mayor of Willingen.
For Stefan Frey, himself an ambitious mountain biker, the BIKE Festival in Willingen is a major highlight. The deputy "BIKE editor-in-chief" enthused: "The BIKE Festival Willingen is the absolute hands-on event. There is something for every sporting category and every taste."
Germany's largest outdoor mountain bike trade fair has already been extensively marvelled at and tested. More than 100 exhibitors with over 200 brands will be presenting their products on the extensive grounds this weekend and making them available for testing free of charge.
Until Sunday at 4 pm, a varied programme of events awaits Programme with sporting competitions and attractive hands-on events. All information about the BIKE Festival Willingen and registration for the events can be found at: willingen.bike-festival.de
No other BIKE Festival offers as much sport to take part in as Willingen. It takes place over three days:
Also brand new to the programme is the VPACE Kids Cup, where rookies can prove themselves in the downhill. With this icing on the cake, Willingen becomes even more of a sports festival for the whole family. In the Kids Cup, boys and girls from the age of five can show how well they can handle their bikes. In the Junior Trophy, even the youngest riders from the age of three can take their first competitive laps.
For adults, the variety of disciplines leaves nothing to be desired. Taking part is the motto in Hochsauerland. If you don't necessarily want to race against the clock, you can also join a guided tour to explore Upland together. Afterwards, you can meet up with the scene on the festival site and talk shop about the latest bike models and trends from all areas. And at the obligatory after-ride party, it's not unusual for someone to toast you with a trophy.
The BIKE Academy is a new series of events that will be offered for the first time this year at the BIKE Festivals in Riva, Willingen and Leogang. BIKE editors, professional mechanics from our test lab and our partners from the industry will pass on their expertise in workshops.
For Willingen, we have been able to win Ergon as a partner, who will be offering ergonomics workshops at the BIKE stand. In addition, the tyre professionals from Kenda will show what is needed for the optimum tubeless setup in the tubeless workshop. As in Riva, BIKE will also be taking part in Willingen with its own workshops. Among other things, the editorial team is planning a Reader test as part of the BIKE Academy.
