The origin of the Capra in 2014. YT presented the first Capra and caused quite a stir. The successful enduro bike from Forchheim not only looked damn good, but also scored top marks in our BIKE tests. YT revised the bestseller in 2018 with a fresh look and state-of-the-art technology. Also a success! Last year, the Capra then in its third expansion stage.
Points of criticism such as the missing bottle cage have been rectified. YT has also succeeded in giving the Capra a wider range of use: It climbs better thanks to a steeper seat angle, but still rattles downhill very confidently. Unfortunately, the newcomer was previously only available in expensive carbon fibre. But just in time for the BIKE Festival in Riva, the product managers are also launching an aluminium model: the YT Capra Core 2.
The aluminium main frame retains all the key data and features of the carbon model. In other words, the bike comes in both 29-inch and mullet setups with a 27.5 mm rear wheel. The suspension travel is 170 millimetres at the front and 165 millimetres at the rear. Compared to the previous models, the reach is longer, the seat angle is steeper and the steering angle is 64-64.5 degrees, depending on the wheel size.
For the suspension, the Core 2 relies on a 38 mm Fox from the Performance series and the Fox Float-X shock. The gearing comes from Sram's NX range. A Code R brake system - also from Sram - with 200 millimetre brake discs provides the braking power. For the wheels, YT relies on the Synthesis Enduro aluminium wheels from Crankbrothers. The price is 3199 euros. The 29er model should weigh 16.4 kilos. With the smaller rear wheel, the scales then level off at 16.3 kilos according to the manufacturer.
