Thok is expanding its product range with the new TP4. For the first time, the Italians are presenting a bike with a Bosch motor. The TP4 is designed to between the high-end enduro Gram (overview here) and the affordable basic Mig model made of aluminium (tested here) categorise. That's why there is only one model for a rather expensive 7190 euros and a more expensive Limited Edition.
The carbon frame is developed, designed and assembled entirely in Italy. Thok relies on German components such as the brand new Bosch Performance Line CX motor (here in the big BIKE test)Schwalbe Albert Gravity Pro radial tyres and Magura brakes. The wheels come from DT Swiss. With two adjustment options using a flip chip, the range of use should be flexible.
The Thok TP4-R is designed as a versatile all-mountain e-bike that is also intended to poach in the enduro category. It is equipped with the new fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor and the customer can choose the batteries themselves. The Italian manufacturer has 400 or 600 watt hours for the lowest possible weight or 800 watt hours for maximum range in its programme. The range can also be extended with Bosch's Power More 250 Range Extender.
The integration of a geometry flip chip enables the seat and steering angle as well as the bottom bracket height to be adjusted to different riding styles and types of terrain. This principle is already familiar from many other manufacturers. You can choose between the "High" setting for optimised climbing characteristics and the "Low" setting for more riding safety and smoothness downhill.
In the "High" position, the seat tube has a fairly steep angle of 79 degrees and a steering angle of 64.5 degrees. This should place the rider far forward on the bike and put a lot of pressure on the front when climbing. In the "Low" position, the seat and steering angle opens up by half a degree by lowering the bottom bracket - according to Thok, this should give the TP4-R a stronger enduro character.
More E-MTBs with the new Bosch Performance Line CX:
The rear suspension is designed as a classic four-link. The system, which Thok calls TP-S2, is designed to provide progressive rear wheel travel that effectively absorbs all types of obstacles on descents while ensuring maximum traction on climbs. The steering stop integrated into the headset protects the integrated cables from excessive loads and the frame from damage caused by hitting fittings.
The integrated and removable 800 Wh battery is located in the down tube of the Thok TP4-R. The bike is also optionally compatible with 600 Wh and 400 Wh batteries, which fit into the same down tube. If you want, you can also increase the range with a range extender (Power More 250). This allows up to six different combinations of battery capacities from 400 to 1050 Wh.
In principle, the Thok TP4-R is only available in a single equipment variant. Here, Thok uses parts from the upper mid-range. The front has a Fox 36 Performance suspension fork with 160 millimetres of travel, while the rear has a Fox Float X shock. The brakes are Magura MT5 and the gears are shifted by a Shimano XT 12-speed drivetrain. The bike rolls on the new Schwalbe Albert Gravity radial tyres from Schwalbe and wheels from DT Swiss.
In addition to the standard TP4-R model, the new Thok is also available in an LTD model. However, with only 30 bikes being produced, the edition is very limited. With Öhlins shock components, Renthal carbon handlebars and Magura MT7 brakes, GX Eagle transmission and DT-Swiss carbon wheels, the LTD offers significantly higher quality equipment, but also costs €10,490.
Both models come in 29-inch, but can also be ridden with a mullet wheelset (29/27.5). The flip chip is also to be used here to iron out the geometry differences caused by the different sized wheels.
The Thok TP4-R is now available in the colour Cloud Dust Grey at a price of 7,190 euros. The TP4 LTD is available in the colour Iridescent Snow with yellow details for 10,490 euros. Both models are available in frame sizes S, M, L and XL.
