Bella E-Talia: Thok Mig trail bike in individual test
With Thok e-bikes, a young Italian direct-to-consumer company is pushing into the e-MTB market. We went on tour with the MIG trail bike.

The Italians are ahead of us when it comes to e-mountainbikes. Club rides in large electrified groups: everyday life. Intensive trail use with the e-MTB: a matter of course. The spirit of development is also bubbling over, and the new Thok E-Bikes brand is just one example of many. Behind it is Stefano Migliorini, a medal-winning mountain bike veteran. The DNA of the former downhill and BMX racer is immediately noticeable: The Mig plays to its strengths when the trail gets narrow and twisty: balanced geometry, full-blown playfulness. The rear suspension works sensitively and willingly releases suspension travel, which provides a lot of comfort. When things get really rough, however, there is a lack of end progression. The Mig is confident on the climbs. The moderate chainstay length keeps the front wheel on the ground and the riding position is comfortable. In combination with the tried and tested Steps 8000 drive from Shimano, it is an unagitated climbing partner.

The equipment doesn't exactly make bikers' eyes light up for the price, but it is well chosen: The Shimano Deore brakes with 203 mm discs decelerate reliably, the wide rims go well with the 2.8 plus tyres. Only the Thok-labelled telescopic seat post occasionally got stuck in its travel when extended.

Thok bikes are sold online. When making a purchase, the customer can choose whether the bike is delivered to their home or to a partner shop. In this way, the Italians are trying to combine the advantages of direct sales and specialised retailers. The network of Thok Points in Germany is still being established and is currently still somewhat sparse.

Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
