The double feature: Ghost Riot (right) and Path Riot look pretty similar. And that's intentional with Ghost.
The Ghost Riot has been marauding down the trails for several years now. Now the Waldsassen-based manufacturer is taking a big step with the Riot platform: with Riot CF AM and Trail, the MTB also comes with a carbon frame. The Ghost Path Riot also features the new Fazua Ride 60 drive!

The fact that the two bikes in our editorial office look very similar is entirely intentional. The brand-new Ghost Riot CF and its motorised twin, the Ghost Path RiotThe Waldsassen bike manufacturers have literally created two bikes side by side. Both MTBs have - apart from the Fazua Ride 60 - the same equipment, the same geo. The idea behind this is that everyone can go out on the trails and tours together. The bikes are similar in appearance and riding behaviour (which we will test). Ghost wants to blur the boundaries between e-bike and non-e-bike.

Ghost says it has pursued three goals in its technical development:

  • The lightweight carbon frame is designed to enable agile handling and 29-inch wheels for all frame sizes.
  • Special attention was paid to noise management. Ghost promises: no cable rattling, no motor noise, no battery rattling.
  • Revised kinematics, especially in the so-called traction link (the closed rear triangle), should deliver more performance and better handling.

While the E-MTB version and the non-motorised mountain bike models are very similar, Ghost now offers two versions of the non-motorised Riot CF: an all-mountain and a trail version. The Riot CF Trail comes with 150 millimetres of travel at the front and 140 mm at the rear. The Riot CF AM adds another front wheel and rocks downhill with 160 mm on the fork.

In fact, true to Ghost's motto for this platform: "side-by-side", the geometry has been kept the same on both. However, the different suspension travel changes the stack-reach ratio. The seat tube angle (STA in the graphic) varies between 77 degrees on the Riot Trail and 76.5 degrees on the Riot AM.

Both versions of the Ghost Riot CF are available in the following equipment lines Full Party and Pro. Ghost offers the following price scale:

  • Riot CF Trail Pro - 4999 Euro
  • Riot CF Trail Full Party - 5499 Euro
  • Riot CF AM Pro - 4999 Euro
  • Riot CF AM Full Party - 5599 Euro

The more affordable version, the Ghost Riot AM Pro for example, is equipped with a Rockshox ZEB Base suspension fork and a Rockshox Super Deluxe Select+ RT shock. Shifting is done with the Shimano XT and braking with the Formula Cura 4 with a 203 mm brake disc. The wheels are made up of WTB ST Light i30 rims and DT Swiss 370 Classic hubs.

The Full-Party-The new version has a Fox 38 Float Factory Grip2 fork and a Fox Float X2 Factory shock. Syntace V30 tyres are used for the wheels at the front and rear. Brakes and gears are the same.

The manufacturer is still officially keeping a lid on the weight. The Riot Trail is said to weigh around 15 kilos. All Riot CF models are available in frame sizes S to XL.
