Defects or technical faults can really spoil the fun of MTB riding. But what breaks down? And why? Help us find out more about wear, defects and damage to bikes in our big bike survey. We are giving away Giro shoes, books and digital subscriptions among all participants.

What breaks on the bike and why?

We want to know exactly: The bike magazines BIKE, TOUR, MYBIKE, EMTB and FREERIDE of Delius Klasing Verlag and the Zedler Institute for Bicycle Technology and Safety are launching a large survey among bikers of all kinds - regardless of whether you spend your free time as an ambitious athlete on a racing bike or mountain bike, go on holiday with a trekking bike or use your e-bike for your daily commute to work.

Defects from e-bike batteries to disc brakes

We are interested in your personal experiences with your bike, which you know better than anyone else: Do the brakes on your bike always work safely and reliably? Or do the gears jam and can't be changed properly? Have you ever had to have certain parts on your bike replaced? Have you ever been involved in a crash or accident and needed repairs to your bike? Or did a defect perhaps even favour the fall? And what about the endurance of the battery on your e-bike - can you still manage as many kilometres as when the battery was new?

Dust, mud, water - mountain bikes are exposed to extreme conditions. You can find out when parts such as a cassette need to be replaced in this article. | .Photo: Georg GrieshaberDust, mud, water - mountain bikes are exposed to extreme conditions. We are interested in all these and many other topics. We want to understand even better which details are important in bicycle technology, and we want to take the results of this survey into account in future tests of bikes and bicycle components. You can provide detailed information about your bike(s) in the following questionnaire.

Thank you for survey participants

As a small thank you for your support, we are giving away a box full of exciting and entertaining cycling books and digital subscriptions to BIKE, TOUR, MYBIKE, EMTB and FREERIDE magazines to all survey participants. In addition, all participants in the online survey can win the following bike accessories from Giro worth a total of 500 euros:

Giro Eclipse Spherical

The Giro Eclipse Spherical is a first-class aero road bike helmet. The lightweight, compact cycling helmet is ideal for use on road or gravel bikes. The slim outer shell actively directs the airflow to reduce air resistance at different angles of attack. At the same time, 14 ventilation openings ensure a cool head on hot summer days. Inside the Giro Eclipse Spherical Aero helmet, a MIPS insert ensures that the rotational forces generated on impact are minimised.
