Continental is expanding its gravel tyre portfolio: The new Terra Competition is designed for gravel tracks and tarmac. In 35 mm, it weighs 345 grams and, according to the manufacturer, is 16% lighter than the Continental Terra Speed 35-622. It comes in 35, 40 and 45 mm and with two carcass options: Race with Rapid compound for maximum speed and Trail with Grip compound for more traction and control.

The Terra Competition uses a continuous centre tread pattern for asphalt, dirt tracks and gravel. The shoulder lugs grow continuously and are designed to provide traction on gravel. The tread is designed for rough tarmac, compacted soils and fine gravel in dry to wet conditions. All models are tubeless ready and hookless compatible. We have already tested the predecessor model Terra Speed from Continental.

Carcasses and compounds

The Race casing combines Continental with the Rapid compound for speed and acceleration. The Trail casing uses the Grip compound and a more robust construction for off-road use. Both variants have textile puncture protection under the tread and use the BlackChili compound. According to the manufacturer, the rolling resistance is up to 17 per cent lower than that of the Terra Speed 35-622.

Weights and availability

The Terra Competition weighs 345 g in the 35 mm version, 420 g in the 40 mm version and 470 g in the 45 mm version. The weight saving compared to the Terra Speed 35-622 is 68 g. The tyre is available in 700 x 35 mm, 40 mm and 45 mm widths. Continental offers the model through specialist dealers and sales partners. Its price: 68.95 euros.
