Newmen from Wiggensbach in the Allgäu region are known and appreciated for their superb wheels, among other things. This year alone, the manufacturer has already launched two wheel series on the market: the Phase 30 Vonoa carbon MTB wheels and the Newmen Beskar 30 in aluminium.
So now Newmen is coming up with two more series made from lightweight metal. The more affordable series is called the Performance 30 and the more expensive Forge 30. Both wheels are suitable for everything from cross-country to enduro - each with different versions. In concrete terms, this means:
The Newmen Performance 30 are available as XC, Trail and Enduro, each in 27.5 and 29 inches. The Newmen Forge 30 even come as XC, Trail, Enduro, Downhill and DH Race, as well as in 27.5 and 29 inch. Both wheel series are available with freehub bodies for Shimano Microspline, Shimano HG and Sram XD. The favourable price is reflected in the weight of both series: according to the manufacturer, the lightest set Forge 30 XC weighs 1735 g - slightly more than the Newmen Beskar Cross Country at 1650 g. However, the Beskar also costs 680 euros per set, while the Forge 30 comes in at 560 euros. Two new wheelsets that should balance durability, weight and price.
The new Newmen Performance 30 wheel series brings the manufacturer's modular wheel concept and robust rim design to aluminium components. The rear wheel is characterised by its stability and durability, while the front wheel is lighter and therefore saves weight. This enables optimum customisation to the needs of cross-country racers, trail bikers and enduro riders.
The Performance 30 rims are made of robust 6061 aluminium and are fitted with hooks. They are already equipped with tubeless rim tape. With a width of 30 mm and a flat profile, they are ideal for modern MTB tyres from 2.3" to 2.6". The rim profile is designed to offer both comfort and grip on any terrain.
The quiet Fade MTB hubs from Newmen in combination with Sapim 2.0 straight-pull spokes ensure reliability. The Performance 30 Enduro also increases the number of spokes on the rear wheel to generate more stability and lateral stiffness.
The new Newmen Performance 30 series uses the same rim shape as the Beskar and Forge models to offer a more cost-effective package. With generous maximum system weights and e-bike approval, they offer a wide range of applications.
The Newmen Forge 30 wheel family also uses different versions of the impact-resistant Forge 30 rims, as well as a Fade MTB hub and high-quality Sapim Race spokes. The aim of these wheels is also the modular wheel concept for the front and rear wheel. The lighter front wheel reduces the weight, while the more stable rear wheel ensures reliability on single trails. With four different rim types (Light, Base, Strong, DH), Newmen offers customised wheelsets for every discipline from cross country to downhill racing. Here too, the 30 millimetre wide Forge 30 rims are fitted with hooks, have a plug-in connection and are already equipped with a tubeless rim tape.
The Forge 30 Strong and DH wheels are characterised not only by a larger rim cross-section, but also by an increased number of spokes. To improve robustness and resistance on difficult terrain, Newmen uses 32 instead of 28 Sapim Race spokes. According to the manufacturer, the Strong and DH rims achieve excellent results in terms of impact resistance in their own tests - not only in comparison with the previous Newmen Evolution SL E.G.30 model, but also in comparison with other products on the market.
During the development of the new generation of rims, Newmen carried out impact tests and FEM analyses on over 30 different rim profile prototypes. The rim flanges were also optimised. According to Newmen, this makes the 30-millimetre rims particularly resistant to punctures. At the same time, the flat rim profiles in the Forge 30 series should also ensure grip and comfort.
