The season is just around the corner - all you need now is the right equipment or even the right bike. We scoured the web for bargains in May and found what we were looking for.

In the mountain bike sector, bargains are almost like an additional adrenaline rush: Suddenly your dream suspension fork no longer costs half a month's salary and you immediately tell yourself that you "really need it".

Whether it's carbon handlebars, new tyres or a completely overpriced fully on sale - bikers' hearts simply beat faster when good deals are on offer. And let's be honest: a new bike feels ten per cent faster down the trail.

The bargains in May

We can recommend these parts and bikes. But beware: often limited or only available in a few sizes.

1st pedals: Reverse Escape Pro

11 pins per side bite deep into the sole. The Escape Pro Flat pedals have proven themselves in past tests. The carefully CNC-machined aluminium housing, paired with a strong CrMo axle, creates a light but solid performance. Pedal size: 100 x 100 mm. With this offer you have to screw the pins into the pedal body yourself - currently available for a fair 65.95 euros >> available here .
Weight: 364 g per pair (+/- 5 % weight tolerance)

Editor's verdict: Solid, lightweight pedals for comparatively little money.

2. fork: RockShox ZEB Select Charger RC Debon Air suspension fork 29"

RockShox has revised its new Lyrik and ZEB - good for bargain hunters, because the previous model is now available at a really favourable price. The ZEB with 170 millimetre stroke likes it rough and has shone in past tests with a lot of comfort and support. Although this is the somewhat simpler Select version, the ZEB is still one of the top forks on the market. Weight 2313 grams. Price: 968 Euro RRP - currently reduced here to 299,99 Euro.

By the way: The top model is also currently discounted. The ZEB Ultimate has achieved top marks. A test is available here. - click here for the reduced offer 699,99 Euro.

3. all-mountain bike: Rocky Mountain Instinct C70 (2025) Size M & XL

The Rocky Instinct is a classic that has already made many BIKE testers yelp on the trail. Rocky is generally not a bargain brand and the price isn't super cheap either - but it is significantly reduced compared to the RRP.

Our downhill impression of the C70: Downhill, the Rocky Mountain Instinct can't deny that it shares its top-quality carbon frame with the Enduro model Altitude. The Rocky integrates the rider in the centre of the frame and spoils them with confident, smooth handling - great when things get steep and fast. In the flat position of the Ride-Four geometry adjustment, the steering angle measures a downhill-hungry 65.5 degrees. For a more playful riding behaviour, the Instinct could be made up to one degree steeper.

Test judgement of comparable model (C70 with Shimano parts):
The Rocky shines on demanding trails and is a cosy tourer. If that appeals to you, the well-equipped Instinct C70 is the bike for everything. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE Editor

Limited availability, only sizes M and XL. Price: currently for 4569 euros instead of 7600 euros.

4th lock: Rose Lockmaxx BL U-lock

Not for the trail, but bikers are sometimes out and about in the city. And of course you don't want your bike to be stolen on a quick trip to the bakery. The Rose Schloss is currently reduced by almost 50 per cent and now costs significantly less instead of just under 20 euros, not bad, right?

Editor's assessment: If you don't have a lock and want to save money, then get this.

5th pair of glasses: Oakley Sutro Lite

An absolute classic. Oakley's Sutro Lite - here with Prizm Road lenses (also suitable for off-road use). The high frame offers a seamless transition to the helmet. The contrast-enhancing PRIZM lenses are a particular highlight. In this version just reduced to 119,95 Euro.

Editor's assessment: There are cheaper glasses with similar performance, but hey, this is an Oakley. And relatively cheap.

6. open face helmet: POC Tectal helmet

The MTB helmet impresses with a robust construction and a deep-drawn helmet shell, which significantly increases the protection zone. The ventilation openings tested in the wind tunnel are designed to ensure optimum air circulation.

For additional safety, it has a visor with a predetermined breaking point and integrated RECCO® reflectors, which make it easier for rescue services to locate the helmet in an emergency. Practical details such as a sunglasses port round off the overall functional package. Reduced from 149.95 euros to 89.95 euros.

Editor's assessment: The price is fair, especially for a POC helmet. Ideally, you should always try on a helmet.
