Shimano presents two new products in the drivetrain range. The tried and tested EP8 motor - previously known under the model number EP800 - is getting an upgrade as the EP801. The e-bike motor is being prepared for a new generation of batteries and is getting a CAN port. The further developed Shimano EP8 drive will also be more powerful: The maximum torque of 85 Newton metres will be available over a wider torque range.
In order for Shimano to catch up with Sram in terms of electronic shifting and for the Di2 system to gain more market coverage in the mountain bike sector, the new EP8 now works with Shimano's new Cues-Di2- and Deore Di2 shifting systems. New functions such as Free Shift and Auto Shift are available for the two new electric shifting systems.
The new Fine Tune Mode in the E-Tube Project Cyclist app is set to provide 15 individually adjustable support levels for the Drive unit on Shimano EP8 update - the extent to which this will delight or overwhelm e-bikers is still questionable.
Compatibility:
Shimano's new EP6 drivetrain basically has the same performance characteristics as the big brother EP801: 85 Nm torque and 250 watts of power. However, at a more favourable price and, according to Shimano, only 300 grams more weight. Compatibility with the new XT and Cues-Di2-shifting systems, the e-bike drive is in no way inferior to the EP801. The EP600, as it is called by Shimano, also offers the Di2 shifting functions Free Shift and Auto Shift as well as the adjustment of the support levels via the app.
