At almost 40 years of age, Greg Minnaar raced to the fourth world championship title of his career. How does the South African motivate himself to achieve such a top performance? BIKE accompanied him for a Downhill World Cup weekend.

When we met Greg Minnaar and his team in early July at the UCI MTB Downhill World Cup in Les Gets for three days, we of course had no idea that the South Africans snatch the World Cup title once again would. We simply wanted to know what drives the almost 40-year-old. 26 years in the business, 20 years at the top of the world, three times world champion - with a list of successes that is hard to beat, others would have long since retired satisfied. Including a place in the Hall of Fame. Unplanned, we witnessed the perfect preparation of a world champion in Les Gets.

The World Cup is all about the athletes. So that Greg Minnaar and his team-mate Luca Shaw can concentrate as much as possible on the competition, food, snacks and the timetable are always at the ready.
