A long time ago, when we were still talking to each other without masks... Formula had the gold piece Cura 4 as an enduro brake new on the market. That was in 2018. Now the Italian manufacturer is once again going on a gold rush and presenting the Cura X. This MTB brake has two 24 millimetre pistons and is designed to combine performance and lightness. The Formula Cura X has the same performance level as the Cura, but is now designed for cross-country and all-mountain use.
The most striking feature of the new design is the carbon lever, which can be adjusted without tools. If you follow the flow of brake oil, the braided and colour-coordinated Kevlar hoses, which are designed to improve the performance of the hydraulics, catch the eye.
A special manufacturing process at Formula enables the use of titanium fittings on the handlebars and brake calliper as well as a lightweight handlebar clamp on the Cura-X brakes.
All in all, according to the manufacturer, the new MTB stopper weighs 34 grams less than the previous version - i.e. a system weight per brake of 325 grams, including 160 mm brake discs and 85 cm cable. A reasonable value compared to, for example, the Hope XCR Pro X2where the entire brake system weighs 629 grams.
The Cura X will initially only be available in limited quantities in shops from July. But Formula promises to have larger quantities in stock soon. Formula has not yet revealed the price.
