Risk of injury due to a faulty seat tube: Norco recalls the Trailbike FluidPhoto: Norco
Just a few weeks ago, Norco unveiled the new Fluid 2027. A lighter 6066 aluminium frame, 140 millimetres of front suspension travel, 130 millimetres at the rear and a mullet option were intended to make this trail bike a versatile, value-for-money choice. Now there’s been a U-turn: Norco is recalling all Gen 3 models from the 2027 model year. The reason is a potential weakness in the seat tube.

Conclusion: The new Fluid has come to a standstill

Norco is pulling the plug. Just over two weeks after the Presentation of the new Fluid 2027 The Canadian manufacturer is halting sales and recalling all bikes already sold. Under certain conditions, the seat tube may fail, potentially causing serious falls. However, Norco has not yet reported any accidents or injuries.

Nevertheless, the conclusion is clear: Fluid owners should under no circumstances continue to ride the bike. Norco has now gone one step further and announced a a full refund of the purchase price actually paid to.

From a new source of hope to a recall case

The timing could scarcely be more bitter. In mid-July, Norco unveiled the third generation of the Fluid as an evolutionary update to its value-for-money trail bike. The manufacturer promised a lighter aluminium frame, modern geometry and more adjustment options. 140 millimetres at the front and 130 millimetres at the rear remained true to the tried-and-tested design.

In technical terms, Norco opted for a solid platform: 6066 aluminium, a VPS Horst Link rear suspension system, fully routed cables and a flip-chip for switching between a 29er and a mullet setup. Three trim levels – A1, A2 and A3 – made up the new model range.

However, the focus is no longer on the new features, but on a safety-related issue with the frame.

The seat tube as a critical point

Norco refers to a Production variance, which, under certain operating conditions, can cause the seat tube to fail. This is not a component that can simply be replaced at the next service. A break at this point can cause the rider to fall immediately.

Norco had initially announced that it would investigate the issue further and then provide information on the next steps. The solution has now been finalised: affected customers will receive a full refund of the purchase price.

These fluid models are affected

The recall covers all frame sizes the following models:

  • MY27 Fluid A1 – Blue
  • MY27 Fluid A2 – Silver
  • MY27 Fluid A3 – Green
  • MY27 Fluid A3 – Black

The recall therefore affects the entire Gen-3 Fluid model range for the 2027 model year – not just individual sizes or trim levels.

What Fluid owners need to do now

Norco sets out the instruction in no uncertain terms: Stop driving immediately.

Affected owners should also Do not sell, give away or otherwise transfer. Anyone who has a bike containing the affected fluid should first contact the authorised dealer from whom the bike was purchased. There, customers will receive information on returns and refunds.

If the original dealer can no longer be contacted, Norco directs customers straight to its own Rider Support.

Editor’s comment: A major setback right from the start

A recall shortly after a new product launch hits a manufacturer particularly hard. Norco had just positioned the new Fluid as an uncomplicated, lightweight and attractively priced trail bike. The platform was intended to stand out thanks to a tried-and-tested design with targeted improvements to specific details.

Now, it is precisely this new platform that is making negative headlines. On a positive note, Norco is proactively addressing the issue and has so far reported no accidents or injuries linked to the affected bikes. The decision to offer a full refund of the purchase price should at least provide some small consolation to customers who, for the time being, no longer have a bike in working order.
