In 2016, the Comfort hardtail Teamelite with a damping element in the seat stays, followed in 2019 by the Fourstroke-Fully with aggressive geometry and integrated dropper post. For 2021, BMC is transferring the approach of the Fourstroke to the hardtail and presenting the brand new Twostroke: a 29-inch race hardtail with a frame weight of 1037 grams. You will look in vain for a damping element. Nevertheless, the new Twostroke should be very comfortable for an MTB hardtail. This is made possible by the special carbon layup of the rear triangle, the D-profile of the BMC seat post (27.2 mm) and the seat tube as well as the seat stays designed for vertical flex.
BMC has modelled the geometry of the new Twostroke on the Fourstroke race fully. A steering angle of 67 degrees and a long front end should ensure a smooth ride on high-speed sections. There is also a 100 mm suspension fork with an offset of 44 millimetres. The 425 millimetre long chainstays and the 75 degree steep seat angle should guarantee a central riding position and good climbing capabilities. The reach in size L is relatively long at 465 mm, but only a 60 mm stem is fitted.
Otherwise, the BMC Twostroke is equipped with everything that characterises a race hardtail of the current generation: integrated cable routing, steering angle limiter, two bottle cages, minimalist chain guide and effective chainstay protectors. In terms of weight, the carbon frame is said to weigh in at 1037 grams (manufacturer's specification), which is rather mid-range in the competitive market.
With the top-of-the-range Twostroke 01 One model, BMC is aiming for a total weight of 9.52 kg at a price of 4000 euros. In terms of equipment, the Swiss are by no means going "all in". Instead, a Sram X01/GX Eagle is used for shifting, a Rockshox SID Select suspension fork and the 2.25-inch Vittoria Barzo tyres spin on DT Swiss X1700 wheels with 25-millimetre-wide rims.
This is followed by the Twostroke 01 Two for 3000 euros, which is said to weigh 9.9 kilos. For this you get a Rockshox Reba RL, a Sram GX Eagle with a 10-52 cassette and DT Swiss X1900 wheels. Two further carbon models - Twostroke 01 Three and Four - will be available for 2500 and 2000 euros, whereby the entry-level bike is equipped with Shimano Deore 1x12 gears.
There will also be two aluminium Twostroke hardtails. In the aluminium bikes, BMC has gone for a 31.6 millimetre seatpost, so you can ride all standard Vario seatposts on the market. A BSA bottom bracket is also fitted. The geometry is identical to the carbon model. The frame weight of the Twostroke AL is said to be 1850 grams.
