Premiere for the Mondraker Anark: The Spaniards are launching a freerider with 170/180 mm travel and no motor. We reveal the most exciting key features of the aluminium freerider.

Topics in this article

Mondraker launches the Anark for bike park and freeride missions. And yes, without a motor. A rarity in 2026, the aluminium frame pushes 170 mm of rear travel and 180 mm of front travel out of the frame. The Zero Suspension kinematics come from the Summum downhill bike.

A flip chip enables two geometry settings. The Anark XR should weigh 17.8 kilos in size M/L, the Anark R 17.9 kilos. Both models use coil shocks and are available in five sizes from S to XL. Prices start at 3999 euros. The top model, the Anark XR, costs 4999 euros. You have to fork out 2599 euros for the frame kit.

The frame

Mondraker developed the aluminium frame from 6061 alloy with hydroforming technology, which enables variable wall thicknesses. An integrated down tube protection pad facilitates loading during shuttle rides. The bearings use a standardised size at all pivot points, identical to the Summum and Zendit models. Double seals inside and out are designed to increase durability.

Mullet wheels and suspension travel

The Anark combines a 29-inch front wheel with a 27.5-inch rear wheel. The tyre clearance allows up to 66 mm width on the rear wheel, which corresponds to 27.5 x 2.6 inches. A Maxxis Assegai in 29 x 2.5 inch fits at the front, a Minion DHR II in 27.5 x 2.5 inch at the rear. The Anark is not designed for a 29-inch rear wheel.

Zero Suspension with coil dampers

The suspension kinematics incorporate elements from Summum and Zendit. The anti-squat value is 98 per cent in the recommended sag of 30 per cent. The Anark XR uses an Öhlins TTX 22M.2 coil.

The spring rates range from 343 lbs in size S to 502 lbs in XL. The Anark R uses a RockShox Vivid Coil Select+ with spring rates from 350 to 500 lbs. Both shocks offer adjustment options for compression and rebound.

Flip-chip geometry in five sizes

A flip chip on the lower shock eyelet enables two geometry positions. In the standard setting, the head angle is 63.5 degrees, the bottom bracket height is 346 mm and the seat angle is 77.5 degrees. The low position lowers the bottom bracket by 5 mm to 341 mm, flattens the head angle to 63.2 degrees and reduces the seat angle to 77.2 degrees. This shortens the reach by 4 mm.

The chainstays measure 445 mm in the standard position and 446 mm in the low position.
The Anark comes in five sizes. The reach ranges from 440 mm in S to 520 mm in XL in the standard position.

At 480 mm reach, the new ML size lies between M (460 mm) and L (500 mm). The stack grows from 644 mm in S to 671 mm in XL. The wheelbase extends from 1241 mm in S to 1334 mm in XL.

Assessment by the editorial team

Yay, they still exist: aluminium freeriders without a motor. I celebrate this for nostalgic reasons alone. But would I still be as enthusiastic about pedalling up the 18-kilo bike today as I used to be? Rather doubtful. In short, freeriders - apart from a few years ago - have always been more of a niche. In 2026, bikes of this type without a motor are practically a super niche. Nevertheless, they have a right to exist. Wonderfully uncomplicated, no battery paranoia and endless reserves. Perfect for shuttle laps, bike park days and cosy laps on the local mountain, without any motor buzzing. ~ Laurin Lehner, BIKE editor

Q&A - The most important questions and answers

IS THE ANARK COMPATIBLE WITH A 29" REAR WHEEL?
Mondraker only recommends the standard 27.5" rear wheel. Although a 29" rear wheel technically fits the bike, the Anark was not developed for a full 29" setup. The geometry changes significantly and the warranty is void if the wheel size is different.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM TYRE WIDTH THAT FITS ON THE ANARK?
The Anark is approved for tyres up to 66 mm wide or 27.5 x 2.6". As tyres vary depending on the manufacturer, we recommend checking the actual width beforehand.

CAN DOUBLE-BRIDGE FORKS BE FITTED TO THE ANARK?
Yes - as long as 180 mm travel or 600 mm installation height is not exceeded. Longer forks affect the geometry, stability and durability of the frame.

THE ANARK HAS TWO GEOMETRIC POSITIONS - HOW DOES THAT WORK?
The Anark offers two geo-settings via a flip chip. In the low position, the bottom bracket drops by 5 mm and the steering angle is 0.35° slacker. The changeover is made simply via the lower damper screw.

CAN I FIT A BOTTLE HOLDER OR TOOL HOLDER?
Yes, bottle cages, spare parts boxes or tool holders can be easily mounted in the main frame.

IS INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING THROUGH THE CONTROL UNIT POSSIBLE?
Basically yes. However, Mondraker deliberately opted for external, maintenance-friendly cable routing and a more durable headset for the Anark. For an internal solution, the upper half of the headset would have to be replaced.

CAN A SINGLESPEED KIT BE FITTED?
Yes, a UDH derailleur hanger or a T-type chain tensioner is required.

WHAT FRAME SIZE DO I NEED?
The Anark is available in five sizes, including the new intermediate size ML. In addition to body size, riding style and personal preferences also play an important role in choosing the right size.

What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
