Just a week ago, Orbea launched its Wild LT e-enduro bike, fitted with an Avinox motor. But the Basque brand is sticking with its tried-and-tested partnership with Bosch: the Orbea Wild TR is hitting the trails as a classic trail and all-mountain bike fitted with a CX motor.
With the Wild TR, Orbea has added a trail-focused model to its enduro range. The combination of tried-and-tested frame architecture, a modern Bosch drive system and a choice of battery options offers a functional and versatile all-mountain option for trail-oriented touring cyclists.
With its latest range launch, Orbea is diversifying its successful Wild platform more significantly than before. Whilst the Basque brand recently launched the race-inspired Wild LT e-enduro bike with 170 mm of travel and the new Avinox M2S drive system, the Wild TR takes a more moderate approach. It is positioned as the versatile all-rounder in the range. Although the technical foundation is provided by the tried-and-tested frame architecture, the kinematics and suspension travel – 150 mm at the front and rear – have been specifically modified for classic all-mountain and trail riding. The aim of this reorientation is to deliver more agile handling on flatter trails, combined with excellent touring capabilities, without completely sacrificing the platform’s fundamental downhill control.
Unlike the Avinox-powered LT model, the Wild TR is equipped with the latest Bosch Performance Line CX motor unit. The motor delivers torque of up to 120 Nm and provides a peak power output of 750 watts. When it comes to the battery, Orbea prioritises flexibility via the MyO configuration programme: buyers can choose ex-works between a permanently fitted 750 Wh battery and a lighter 600 Wh option. The latter reduces the overall weight and is said to make handling noticeably more dynamic, whilst the larger version is designed to maximise range. For long-distance rides, the system can be expanded by 250 Wh with the Bosch PowerMore Range Extender. Revised sensor technology and optimised software algorithms ensure linear power delivery, which particularly improves traction control on steep technical gradients.
The geometry adheres to modern standards without venturing into extreme territory. At 64.5°, the head angle is sufficiently slack to ensure a smooth ride on fast sections, whilst the steep seat angle of 78.4° positions the rider in an efficient uphill riding position. A low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution are designed to stabilise the bike on technical terrain. A key design feature is the frame’s ‘Steep-and-Deep’ construction: the short, straight seat tube allows for the fitting of Vario seat posts with a very long travel, guaranteeing maximum freedom of movement on downhill sections.
The suspension offers 150 mm of travel at both the front and rear. According to the manufacturer, the rear suspension kinematics have been specifically tuned to deliver a defined response with good support in the mid-travel range, to prevent the bike from bottoming out on the trail. A fully enclosed, internal cable routing system is designed to prevent rattling noises. Sealed bearings at the pivot points and a large, integrated frame guard round off the package to minimise wear during continuous use. As usual, the MyO programme allows not only cosmetic customisations but also the targeted upgrading of suspension components, brake systems or wheelsets directly from the factory. Assembly takes place at the company’s headquarters in Mallabia, the Basque Country.
The top-of-the-range model in the series combines the premium OMR carbon frame with high-end components for uncompromising trail performance. However, it does not feature an electronic groupset.
The mid-range model in the Carbon range combines factory-grade suspension technology with the reliable Shimano XT groupset.
Your introduction to the world of carbon frames comes with a rock-solid Fox Performance suspension system and excellent value for money.
Hydroformed aluminium frame, functional components: the H10 places great emphasis on durability.
The entry-level model in the Wild TR range combines robust components with the full power of Bosch at a particularly affordable price.
