Canyon has unveiled the second edition of its successful Grizl gravel bike. The model, which was launched four years ago, has been given a comprehensive update and is now set to become even more versatile and suitable for adventures. The German direct distributor has once again proven itself to be an innovative lateral thinker and presents the Grizl with solutions that have rarely or never been seen on production bikes before. For example, a suspension fork specially developed with DT Swiss will be part of selected models. A special handlebar, which allows more grip positions and the mounting of luggage and various accessories, has also been added to certain Grizl variants. There are also variants with an integrated lighting system including battery, similar to the Cannondale Synapse. The special feature: the battery on the Grizl is permanently charged with a hub dynamo. With these new developments, the Koblenz-based company is responding to the trend towards ever longer and more demanding gravel tours off the beaten track.

Canyon Grizl with everything for city and touring

The new Grizl is based on a completely redesigned carbon frame, which Canyon claims is more robust and lighter than the previous model. The tyre clearance has been slightly increased to 54 millimetres, which allows the use of even wider tyres for more traction and comfort off-road. Previously, the limit was 50 millimetres. Additional attachment points on the frame and fork are intended to offer more options for panniers and accessories. Canyon offers its own pannier rack for the new frameset, both for the front and rear. Mudguards are also available.

Model variants of the Canyon Grizl

Canyon offers the new Grizl in two versions: The Grizl OG (Original Graveler) is designed for day trips and shorter tours. It features classic gravel equipment with SRAM XPLR or Shimano GRX components and a conventional handlebar stem system. Prices for the Grizl OG start at € 2,399.

Escape

The Grizl Escape is aimed at bikepackers and long-distance adventurers. It is equipped with a mountain bike-inspired "Mullet" gear system, which enables very low gears for steep climbs with heavy luggage. A special "Full Mounty" handlebar - previously a niche product among bikepacking enthusiasts - also offers additional hand positions and mounting options. The Grizl Escape is available from 2,999 euros.

ECLIPS: Endless Charge & Lighting Integrated Power System

For selected models, Canyon offers an integrated lighting system called ECLIPS (Endless Charge & Lighting Integrated Power System). It consists of a hub dynamo from the German manufacturer SON, a battery built into the frame and front and rear lights from Lupine. The lights and the battery are powered and charged by the hub dynamo. There is also a USB-C port on the stem, which can be used to charge electronic devices such as mobile phones, cameras or navigation systems while riding. The system is controlled via the Canyon app.

RIFT

Another option is a special Gravel suspension fork from DT Swiss available. The F132 One fork has 40 millimetres of suspension travel and is specially designed to meet the requirements of gravel bikes. A remote control on the handlebars allows the suspension to be locked on climbs or on the road.

The cooperation between Canyon and DT Swiss also includes wheels

New carbon wheels are being introduced at the same time as the Grizl, which are specified on the more expensive versions. The wheelset was also developed together with DT Swiss and has 30 millimetre high hookless rims with a 27 millimetre rim width.

Canyon Grizl: Facts & Figures

The new Canyon Grizl is available in seven frame sizes, ranging from 160 to over 200 centimetres tall. All models are fitted with 45 millimetre wide Schwalbe G-One tyres as standard. During development, Canyon relied on proven standards such as round seat posts and 1 1/8-inch steerer tubes to ensure easy maintenance and spare parts supply.

Prices for the new Canyon Grizl start at € 2,399 for the entry-level Grizl CF 6 model, which comes with a mechanical SRAM Apex drivetrain and is expected to weigh around ten kilograms. The cheapest model with the RIFT suspension fork is the CF8, which comes with an electric SRAM Rival AXS 1x12 drivetrain and will cost €3499. The lighting system is available from 4299 euros with the Grizl CF 8 ESC, which comes with the "Full Mounty" handlebars. If you want classic handlebars and lights, you have to go for the top model: The Grizl CF 9 with SRAM Red AXS drivetrain and ECLIPS lighting system costs €7,999 and, according to the manufacturer, should weigh 8.84 kilograms. According to Canyon, the new Grizl will be available from 1 July 2025 in the online shop and in the showrooms in Koblenz and Munich.
