Yuccie Bikes presents two e-bike models for urban use. The new brand with roots in Hamburg focusses on minimalist design and suitability for everyday use. Bergamont founder Stefan Berkes wants to open up a new, smart option on the e-bike market.
The Junico Flow comes with a trapezoidal frame and low step-through. It uses the Bafang H 700 hub motor with 40 Nm torque. Yuccie combines the 2-speed automatic gearbox with a Gates belt drive, which promises low-maintenance use. The total weight is said to be just 20 kg. Of course, the 2499 euro Junico Flow is not a mountain goat, but it could be a promising everyday bike for flat cities.
For a little more versatility, the Junico Active with its classic diamond frame relies on the Bafang H 305 hub motor with 45 Nm and 9-speed derailleur gears from Tektro. The model is said to weigh 21 kg and cost 2399 euros.
Unlike some other urban e-bikes, both Yuccie models come with a removable battery. The capacity is 360 watt hours and Yuccie states a range of up to 80 kilometres. In practice, around 50 kilometres should be realistic - but even compact tours are possible.
A GPS tracker is fitted as standard to protect against theft. Tracking is free for the first year. After that, as with most GPS trackers, monthly charges apply. Riding data can be read on a display integrated into the top tube. A smartphone app enables tracking and control, and hydraulic brakes are included as standard.
The aluminium frame comes in two versions. The diamond shape (Active) is available in three sizes: M, L and XL. The trapezoidal frame is available in SM and ML. Internal cable routing and polished weld seams characterise the clean look. Child seats and transport solutions can be retrofitted. With the mounting points on the head tube, a front carrier is also no problem.
The Junico Flow costs 2499 euros and is available in grey and black. The Junico Active costs 2399 euros and is available in ice blue and black. It is sold directly via the manufacturer's website as well as via specialist dealers with test ride options.
Yuccie's first appearance looks promising. Rather than focusing on glamorous components, the brand wants to focus on a fair price and features such as GPS tracking. This puts Yuccie in a similar vein to other urban specialists such as Ampler or Vanmoof at an even more favourable price. We are excited to see how the bikes perform in practice. - Adrian Kaether, Editor Test & Technology
