Nova and Nova Pro: Less electronic waste! Ampler launches its first e-bikes with a USB-C charging port as standard

Ampler is making its mark in the field of electric mobility with its new e-bike models, the Nova and Nova Pro. According to the manufacturer, these pedelecs are the world’s first e-bikes to feature a USB-C charging port integrated directly into the frame. This design eliminates the need for bulky specialist chargers, which are required for conventional e-bikes. Instead, the e-bike can be charged using a standard high-power USB-C charger. Charging power of up to 140 watts is possible. However, most laptop chargers only offer two-digit wattage figures. Consequently, the charging process takes correspondingly longer.
Nevertheless, this innovation is designed not only to make everyday life with an e-bike easier, but also to help reduce electronic waste. The charging time is 2.5 hours for daily use and 3.5 hours for a full charge at the maximum 140 watts. Ampler’s approach is in line with the forthcoming EU directive, which will require USB-C charging ports for electronic devices from January 2026 and is intended to help reduce the 11,000 tonnes of electronic waste generated annually by unused chargers.
Two model variants to suit different needs
The Nova range comprises two models, each aimed at different target groups. Ampler positions the entry-level Nova model as the ideal introduction to the world of e-bikes. It has been specially developed for effortless city riding and combines simplicity, comfort and style for everyday use. With wide 27.5-inch tyres and a 9-speed MicroSHIFT drivetrain, it is designed for relaxed, safe rides in a comfortable, upright riding position in urban areas.
The Nova Pro, on the other hand, is aimed at more discerning users who cover longer distances, need more power or want to experience more adventure. It features sportier 28-inch wheels and higher-quality components, including a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt drive or, alternatively, a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain.
Framework concepts and sustainable production
Both models are available with both diamond and low-step frames and come in a range of sizes to suit a wide variety of users. The bikes are designed to be customisable – from the saddle and child seats right through to trailers. In its production, Ampler prioritises sustainability and local manufacturing. The bikes are assembled by hand at the company’s own factory in Tallinn, which is powered entirely by renewable energy. This local, sustainable production model underlines the company’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility. The bikes in the Nova range have been developed with a wide variety of users in mind – from commuters and older people to busy parents.
Focus on repairability and durability
A key feature of the new Nova models is their ease of repair and durability. Ampler focuses on bikes that are easy to maintain and can be used without any problems in everyday life. The Nova and Nova Pro models feature standard components from established brands such as MicroSHIFT, Shimano, Gates, Continental, Panaracer and Selle Italia. This means that the bikes can be serviced at almost any cycle shop in Europe, at Ampler service partners or even at home. The use of standard components not only makes repairs easier but also contributes to the bikes’ longevity, as spare parts are readily available. This approach is in line with Ampler’s philosophy of building e-bikes that feel and handle just like normal bikes – only with electric assistance.
Smart features and connectivity
As well as their innovative charging concept, the Nova models also offer a wide range of connectivity features. The Ampler app can be used to control GPS protection and monitoring, as well as smart settings. This allows you to adjust riding parameters and keep track of your speed and distance travelled. The bikes also feature a weatherproof display integrated into the frame, which shows important information whilst riding. The charger can also be used as a power source, meaning that the e-bike can be used to charge smaller devices such as a smartphone. These smart features complement the well-thought-out overall design of the Nova range, which is geared towards everyday practicality and user-friendliness.
New leadership and vision for the future
With the Nova models, Ampler is setting new standards not only technically but also strategically. The company has announced a new direction for 2025 that places a particular focus on female riders – a group that is often under-represented in the e-bike market. The newly appointed CEO, Eva Raigo, emphasises in this context
E-bikes must reflect the diversity of their riders. It is time that we not only saw more women on bikes, but also involved in their development.
This vision is reflected in the inclusive design of the Nova models, which are intended to appeal to a wide range of users thanks to their variety of frame shapes and sizes. Ampler aims to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive cycling culture.
Availability and prices
The new Nova models will be available for pre-order on the Ampler website from 1 April 2025. Delivery is scheduled to begin in June 2025 – just in time for the summer season. The basic Nova model is available from €2,490, whilst the Nova Pro is priced from €2,990. Both models come with a two-year warranty and a 14-day return policy. For those interested in financing their purchase through their employer, Ampler also offers leasing options via JobRad and other providers. Furthermore, a growing network of Ampler service partners is available across Europe to ensure long-term support for the bikes.
