Bikes for the little ones have always been a priority for bike mail order company Propain. In 2023, the Vogt-based company is giving its kids' bike line-up a makeover. With the Barney, they are expanding their range with a 16-inch mountain bike with single-speed drive. The 20-inch Dreckspatz and Frechdax models have been rethought from the ground up. We have the information and prices for the new children's bikes.
Practise earlywho wants to become a great one day. This also applies to mountain biking. However, in order to ignite the spark of passion in the next generation at an early age, you need the right training. Lightweight kids bikes - and that's what mums and dads have been finding for a long time at Propain.
Ten years of experience have now gone into the development of the children's bikes. With the most recently introduced Bam Bam, the models range from 14-inch wheels to 26-inch full-suspension bikes for park use. The Barney is a brand new 16-inch MTB for little shredders.
With the 16-inch Barney hardtail, Propain closes the gap between the children'sBam Bam balance bike and the 20-inch Dreckspatz hardtail. The bike is built on a lightweight aluminium frame, with which kids aged 3 and over can take their first steps off-road. Large-volume tyres from Vee Tire Co. are designed to provide the necessary riding comfort, while the disc brakes provide good deceleration.
Propain has dispensed with gears, instead the Barney rolls off-road as a single-speed MTB. There is a choice of two frame colours (Raw and Badmint) and four component colours (Black, Lime Green, Raspberry Pink, Sky Blue). This allows the bike to be easily customised to the wishes of the youngsters. The built-in Sixpack components from the 1st Ride series have been specially developed for little bikers.

The Dreckspatz is an old favourite in the Propain line-up and was primarily designed for flowing single trails and pump tracks. Although the existing geometry has been retained for 2023, the children's hardtail has been given an optimised tube set. The cables are now routed internally through the frame.
The 9-speed rear derailleur is held in place by Sram's UDH derailleur hanger, which can be easily replaced in the event of a defect. The suspension fork with 80 millimetres of travel was developed by Propain and has a carbon-reinforced fork bridge. The air chamber and negative spring have been adapted to the low weight of the kids for creamy response behaviour.
Like the Barney, the Dreckspatz is also available in two frame colours and four component colours. At 8.8 kilos, the children's MTB should also be a lot of fun on longer trail rides, utilising the sprinting strengths of the rigid rear end. The child-friendly 1st-Ride attachments are also used on the Barney. From a height of approx. 110 centimetres or at around five years of age, you can race through the terrain on the Dreckspatz.

It's really amazing what kids can do at such a young age these days. Surfing on the rear wheel, pushing through berms and levelling the bike when jumping over the table - with our Kids bike tests regularly leave us open-mouthed with amazement. It goes without saying that the little shredders are also hungry for proper material.
If the youngsters have caught bike fever, they can really step on the gas on the revised Propain Frechdax. The 20-inch fully offers 80 millimetres of suspension travel at the fork and 90 millimetres at the rear - enough safety on rough trails and small jumps in the park. The geometry is designed to offer an optimum compromise between smoothness and manoeuvrability. The classic single-pivot rear triangle with a cleverly positioned pivot point is designed to elicit the full potential of the specially tuned Rockshox shock even with a low rider weight.
The suspension fork is an in-house development, the same as on the Dreckspatz, and also offers a generous 80 millimetres of travel. On the Frechdax, the cables are now routed internally in the frame and the tubeset has been optimised once again. Two frame colours and a choice of four colours for the add-on parts round off the full-suspension package.
