The Japanese innovation leader Cateye has presented an update for its StVZO-compliant lighting. The new GVolt 80.1 front light offers a light intensity of 80 lux and is characterised by a more compact design. Particularly noteworthy is the new lower handlebar mounting, which contributes to a neat cockpit look. Equipped with three different light levels and a battery life of up to 16 hours, the GVolt 80.1 is aimed at technically adept and demanding cyclists.

Cateye is expanding its range of lights with the new GVolt 80.1, the successor to the popular GVolt 70.1 with improved performance and a sophisticated design. For this model, the Japanese manufacturer has opted for its own OptiCube™ lighting technology with a powerful high-power SMD LED.

Compact powerhouse with a sophisticated installation concept

This ensures uniform illumination that extends well beyond the edge of the road, guaranteeing clear visibility even at higher speeds. According to the manufacturer, the homogeneous light distribution with a maximum output of 80 lux ensures optimum visibility both on dark country roads and in urban night traffic. The front light is StVZO-compliant and therefore fulfils all legal requirements for road traffic in Germany.

Innovative substructure mounting for a tidy cockpit

A special feature of the GVolt 80.1 is the sophisticated mounting solution. In contrast to conventional front lights, the light is mounted under the handlebars - i.e. upside down. This unusual positioning offers several advantages: The cockpit looks tidier and more harmonious, while the controls still remain easily accessible. The FlexTight™ bracket supplied enables secure attachment to various handlebar types.

For riders who already use out-front mounts for bike computers or smartphones, Cateye also offers an action cam adapter as part of the scope of delivery. This allows the light to be seamlessly integrated into existing cockpit setups. For owners of aero handlebars, a special FlexTight™ mount is optionally available, which is designed for the flat shape of these handlebars.

Enduring runtime and sophisticated operation

With a weight of just 102 grams (without holder), the GVolt 80.1 remains pleasantly light despite the integrated lithium-ion battery. The compact design is not at the expense of battery life. At the highest light level of 80 lux, the front light offers an operating time of up to 5 hours. If you want to save energy, you can switch to the medium level with 50 lux and achieve a runtime of up to 7.5 hours. For longer tours or when maximum endurance is required, the lowest level with 20 lux is available, which enables an operating time of up to 16 hours. A practical 5-stage battery indicator provides information on the current charge level at all times, so that unexpected failures can be avoided. The mode memory function remembers the last light mode used.

Weatherproof and reliable for every season

The GVolt 80.1 was designed for use in a wide range of conditions. With IPX4 certification, the front light is protected against splashing water from all directions and is therefore equipped for riding in the rain or through puddles. The robust workmanship is designed to ensure reliable operation even when subjected to vibrations on uneven paths. Thanks to the StVZO approval, the light is authorised for road traffic in Germany and offers glare-free light distribution that does not impair other road users.
