The Slovakian bicycle manufacturer Kellys has been building bikes of all kinds for 32 years. The various Theos - ancient Greek for "god" - models are available in different suspension travel versions. Now Kellys wanted to create something new: A full-power e-bike that weighs as much as a fully from the Light Assist class. To achieve this, the engineers at Kellys had to redevelop the frame and the battery and opt for a lighter version of several components. As a result, however, the manufacturer has managed to create an amazingly light e-MTB with a really large battery and full e-bike power.
The centrepiece of the new Kellys Theos F100 is the newly developed Re-Charge K1 battery. A battery with 825 watt hours and only 3.9 kilograms has never been seen before. In comparison: The Canyon Spectral:ON battery with 900 watt hours weighs a whopping 4.77 kilograms. The Bosch Powertube with 750 watt hours also weighs 4.30 kilograms. The developers at Kellys were able to achieve such values thanks to a very high energy density per kilogramme. At 211 Wh/kg, it is said to be the highest density on the market. The e-bike battery can be pulled out downwards for removal. When it comes to the motor, Kellys relies on the proven 85 Newton metres of the new Shimano EP801.
At 20.6 kilograms, the Kellys is said to be the lightest full-power e-bike. After a quick check in our database, we can confirm that it would be the lightest e-bike with such a large battery to date. For comparison: the excellent Scor 4060 Z ST XT weighs 22.57 kilograms with 726 watt hours, albeit with slightly more robust equipment. Kellys has achieved the low weight by redeveloping the frame of the Theos series with a new carbon-aramid composite structure. The new frame from the Slovakian company should therefore be lighter and at the same time offer more rigidity. Production takes place in Europe, where Kellys works and designs together with specialists in the automotive sector.
The new Theos F100 features a 150 millimetre fork combined with a 140 millimetre shock. Kellys has also opted for a mullet setup with 29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear wheels for this e-MTB. This should make the power device easier to manoeuvre through tight bends and more playful to ride overall. However, for a 27.5-inch rear wheel, the chainstays are quite long at 460 millimetres. This is good for climbing, but should not lead to a pronounced playfulness when chasing downhill corners. The choice of sizes is narrow: The F100 is only available in M or L.
For the rear suspension concept, Kellys relies on the in-house Think Link Virtual Pivot platform with asymmetric damper linkage. The system should respond very sensitively and at the same time be brake- and drive-neutral, as well as avoiding pedal kickback. The virtual pivot point of the Think Link rear triangle is located in the centre of the bottom bracket, which should keep the chain line constant throughout the entire suspension travel.
The Theos F100 features a Rockshox Lyrik Ultimate with 150 millimetres of travel, paired with a Rockshox Super Deluxe Select+ shock with 140 millimetres of travel. The e-mountainbike is powered by Shimano's new EP801 motor with 85 Newton metres of torque. This gets its energy from the aforementioned Kellys Re-Charge K1 battery with 825 watt hours. Shifting is done with the Shimano Deore XT Di2. This also switches conventionally on request, offers with Free and autoshift but some exciting additional functions. The carbon device is stopped by a Shimano XTR brake with 203 millimetre brake discs at the front and rear. Although the Theos is supposed to fall into the enduro category, with Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres in SpeedGrip compound front and rear, it is more in the trail bike/all-mountain bike category. You can buy the Kellys Theos F100 for 12,999 euros from your trusted dealer.
