Comfortable, all-terrain, suitable for everyday use: The Stereo Hybrid 140 from Cube has been a popular all-rounder on the E-MTB market for years. In addition to the Bosch drive and the long range, the uncomplicated handling and fair price have always been reasons for the popularity of this e-bike. Despite the completely new design and new name, nothing should have changed in these basic pillars for 2025. The Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 continues to rely on 29er wheels, 150/140 millimetres of travel and a hybrid frame with a carbon front triangle and aluminium rear triangle. However, Cube has of course also made functional changes at some key points.
The most striking new feature is the position of the rear shock. Instead of being positioned vertically in front of the seat tube, it is now positioned horizontally under the top tube. According to Cube, however, this has not changed the comfortable kinematics - only the look should appear sportier. The weight is similar: The bikes should remain at about the same level as last year. The Stereo Hybrid 140 with Bosch's CX motor has not yet stood out as being particularly light. But since the last major update for the 2022 model year with lighter frames the weight is perfectly acceptable in a market comparison. Our photo bike, the Stereo Hybrid One44 Action Team, is said to weigh 23.9 kilos.
Cube presented its 2025 E-MTBs to the public at the beginning of September. However, crucial details about the motor were left open. Now it is clear: the brand new and heavily revised Bosch Performance Line CX MY25 is in the bikes. It is not more powerful, but slightly lighter and, above all, quieter.
The highlight is the new batteries. The Powertube 800 is lighter than the Powertube 750 of its predecessor - and still delivers more capacity. And the smaller and even lighter Bosch Powertube 600 fits into the down tube of the Stereo Hybrid One44 on request. The higher-priced models all come with the 800 battery ex works. Some of the cheaper models are fitted with the 600 battery. Switching between the two energy sources works without an adapter.
The battery removal on the Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 remains untouched. The battery in the down tube is covered with a generously rubberised cover. This encloses the frame seamlessly and sits without rattling. The cover can also be easily removed using the familiar push button. The battery can then be removed with a spanner.
As an option, the range of the bike can be increased with the range extender from Bosch. As the name suggests, the Power More 250 delivers 250 watt hours and is clicked into a special holder on the down tube. It is barely bigger than a water bottle. The additional battery must be connected to the charging port via a cable. Cube takes care of this the solution from the SX-Bike AMS Hybrid One44. Once the cable is connected, the cover of the charging port is clipped off so that it is not in the way when pedalling.
Cube has also come up with something new in terms of everyday features. X-Connect is the name of the system with which a front light can be clicked onto the stem within seconds. The special feature: The connection to the main battery is just as quick via a kind of "socket". Cube's own brand Acid offers a whole range of matching lights. From affordable everyday models to super-bright sports lights. From the mid-range models upwards, X-Connect is factory-fitted to all Stereo Hybrid One44s. If no light is fitted, the system is barely noticeable.
Cube does not dare to experiment with the geometry of the Hybrid One44 and, according to its own statement, largely adopts the values of its predecessor. However, the steering angle has been slackened by a whole degree to 65 degrees. On top of that, it can be slackened by 0.6 degrees for more riding stability and traction on the trail thanks to rotating bearing shells in the headset. The chainstays remain quite long at 450 mm in size S and 457 mm in sizes M to XL.
The biggest changes to the new chassis: the seat tube is significantly shorter to make room for longer telescopic seat posts. In size L, only 420 millimetres are listed in the data sheet instead of 460. This gives the rider more freedom when choosing a size.
The entry-level price for the new Stereo Hybrid One44 is priced at 4499 euros for the "Race" variant. Four further models follow with SLX, TM, Action Team and SLT. The Top model to cost 8499 euros and weigh 23 kilos. The bikes should be available in shops from the end of September/beginning of October.
