Lightweight, affordable and pleasantly smooth-running: The Rose Druckmacher GF 56 is clearly aimed at price-conscious everyday users. In the practical test, the bike pump from the mail order company impressed with its low effort and good readability, but showed weaknesses in stability, precision and valve handling. The detailed test shows whether the low price justifies the compromises.

You can order the right pump for your new bike directly from Rose. For barely 23 euros, the Printmaker GF 56 is a real bargain. But is the inexpensive pump also worth recommending?

Of course, you shouldn't expect too much from the choice of materials. Apart from the steel cylinder, the pressuriser is made almost entirely of plastic. However, there is also a small highlight: the pressure gauge is located high up on the cylinder and is easy to read despite its not overly generous size. However, the scale could be a little more detailed and, as with many other pumps, the bar range is on the smaller inner circle.

The pump head of the Druckmacher GF 56 fits the most common valve types. However, when switching between Presta and auto valve, you have to change the screws. At least this is a practical flip head, which is simply screwed on upside down. Small parts do not have to be fiddled out.

Practical test: light, fast, but wobbly

The Rose Druckmacher is one of the lightest pumps in the test field, which has a positive effect on transport. It scores points with its pleasantly smooth pumping behaviour. At the same time, however, it shows weaknesses in stability, precision and valve handling. The base is narrow and wobbly, especially at higher pressures. In the test, the pump quickly tilts backwards, which does not inspire confidence and gives the impression that the base could even break under load.

The handle is pleasantly rounded and sits comfortably in the hand. Overall, the workmanship is solid, but not outstanding.

Pumping behaviour & effort

The Rose runs extremely smoothly, almost too easy to pull out. The hand forces remain low, which makes pumping pleasant. However, the low resistance level also ensures that the pump feels somewhat "empty". This is a plus point for users who pump frequently or want to apply little force.

Valve head: quickly replaced, but with air loss

The pump head can be quickly and easily switched between Presta and Auto - an advantage in everyday use. However, the lever is angular and does not sit particularly well in the hand. The pump head is also relatively short, which makes it difficult to attach. Some air escapes from both valve types when they are removed.

Pressure gauge: well positioned, but inaccurate

The pressure gauge is located high up on the pump, which makes it easier to read. The scale is clearly structured, but the bar display in the inner ring is very small. In addition, the scale only shows 0.2 bar increments, which is borderline for precise settings. The measurement deviation is well over 0.2 bar, which is clearly noticeable in the test. Sufficient for everyday bikes - too inaccurate for sporty setups.

Conclusion & evaluation Rose Druckmacher GF 56

CategoryGrade
Handling (40%)2,6
Valve head (30%)3,0
Pressure gauge (30%)2,3
BIKE NOTE2,6

The Rose Druckmacher is a lightweight, easy-to-pump floor pump that scores points above all for the smooth running of the piston in the cylinder. However, the wobbly stand, the air loss at the valve head and the inaccurate pressure display prevent a better rating. OK for occasional use - there are more stable alternatives for precise or frequent use.

Advantages

  • Pleasantly rounded handle
  • Smooth pumping action, low manual force
  • Valve head can be quickly screwed on
  • Well-positioned pressure gauge

Disadvantages
