The SKS Airkompressor has been regarded as a solid workhorse for years - now it is available with Schwalbe's Clik-Valve pump head. In the practical test, the floor pump scored points with its precise, easy-to-read pressure gauge and very convenient valve operation, but revealed weaknesses in the base and material feel. The detailed test shows where the SKS is convincing and why it is still not enough for the top group.
The Air compressor The German pump expert SKS has had this in its programme for some time. It is considered the workhorse of the Sunderner company and is designed to offer efficient pumping performance at a reasonable price - and it's also made in Germany. As the name suggests, the pump head for Schwalbe's Clik-Valve system is new to this version. This promises significantly easier handling and a higher air flow than with conventional valves.
Apart from the steel tube, the SKS is largely made of plastic, but makes a solid impression at first glance. Clever: The bar display is located on the outer area of the scale and is therefore easy to read.

The floor pump from SKS positioned itself in the test as a classic mid-range model: The workmanship is functional, but not high-quality. Particularly noticeable: The base is made of relatively soft plastic and is very prone to twisting. The pressure gauge cover cracks when tilted sideways, which does not inspire confidence. The plastic handle looks simple, but is surprisingly comfortable to hold and is pleasantly rounded. The hose length is fine, but the pressure-resistant hose is relatively inflexible, which limits handling somewhat.
When pumping, the SKS proves to be of average stability, but not outstanding. The flexible base ensures that the pump yields slightly with strong strokes. The manual forces are in the mid-range, the overall pumping feel is solid, but not particularly smooth.
This is where the SKS shows its greatest strength. The pressure gauge is pleasantly large, has an external bar scale and is scaled in 0.1 bar increments. The SKS also measures surprisingly accurately. This makes the pump ideal for riders who want to set their tyre pressure precisely - a clear advantage over many cheaper models.
The Clik-Valve valve is a real highlight: thanks to its compact design, it fits well between the spokes. Thanks to one-handed operation, it is easy to fit and particularly easy to remove again - no clamping lever is required. Despite this, the pump head is secure and airtight. In terms of handling, the valve head is one of the best in the test field.
