We have all probably noticed: sun cream is becoming increasingly important in Germany too. New Layer has developed a sun cream that offers a high sun protection factor (SPF) of 50+ and protects the skin and the environment at the same time. The manufacturer is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility by using coral-friendly UV filters and avoiding mineral oils, parabens, silicones and PEGs.

Sun cream is not only a must on the beach in El Arenal and on the ice of the Großglockner - the Pasterze - but also on our tours in the low mountain ranges and actually also in the city, sun protection is now part of the basic equipment in our bike rucksacks. The sun shines more intensely and we are aware of the risk of cancer from sunburn.

However, sun creams are not among the most natural products in the beauty industry. So it's all the better when a manufacturer has taken a close look at the ingredients and brings out a new sun cream that aims to make everything a little better.

Firstly, the New Layer Pro Vitamin D sun cream is not entirely new - but it now offers an improved formula with SPF 50+ and more protection for the environment.

According to New Layer, the high-performance sun cream is not only quickly absorbed and therefore offers immediate waterproof protection against UV rays. It also dispenses with microplastics or liquid plastic. It is the newly developed, second generation of the Pro Vitamin D Formula, which, according to the manufacturer, has an innovative UV filter and is designed to activate cell regeneration at the same time. And because it is also a feel-good product, News Layer has given the new sun cream the scent of rosemary and Mediterranean fruit, which also makes your nose think of summer... if you will.

Sun cream for sensitive skin - and the environment

For people with sensitive skin, there is also an SPF50+ SENSITIVE version of the New Layer "High Performance Sunscreen". This sun cream is said to be free from fragrances, alcohol and allergens.

However, it seems particularly important to us that the manufacturer is aware of the importance of intact coral reefs for the ecosystem and the protection of marine diversity and is therefore actively committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. In concrete terms, this means that only coral-friendly UV filters are used in all New Layer products. In addition, the sun cream is free from mineral oils, parabens, silicones and PEG (polyethylene glycol) - potentially harmful or allergenic substances that are still frequently found in skincare products.

New Layer's sustainability efforts are not limited to sun cream, but also include the use of recycled materials for packaging and certification as a climate-neutral company.

Update: New Layer sun cream in the test

The New Layer sun creams have proven to be extremely pleasant to use. Their subtle fragrance evaporates quickly, while the sensitive version smells almost neutral. Both creams are easy to apply and are quickly absorbed, which makes them stand out in comparison to other UPF50+ creams. The skin feels very little greasy or sticky.

Despite generous use, both variants appear to be very economical, which makes the price seem fair. In addition, the New Layer sun creams not only offer a very high level of UV protection - applied 2-3 times, they prevented sunburn in midsummer, even with all-day sun exposure. We were also impressed by the environmentally friendly properties, such as coral-friendly UV filters, but above all the absence of mineral oil, parabens, silicone or so-called PEG. New Layer produces in Switzerland and therefore the sun cream does not travel halfway around the planet.

Overall, the New Layer sun creams are a recommended choice for anyone who values ease of use and environmental aspects. The price is fair compared to other high-quality sun creams with UPF50+. With their light texture and quick absorption, they offer a high level of comfort. They also provide effective protection against harmful UV radiation and help to preserve our coral reefs. The New Layer sun creams are therefore a successful combination of effectiveness, user-friendliness and sustainability.
