Downhill, freeride, enduro and dirt bikes have always been the speciality of YT Industries. But last year came as a surprise: a short-stroke trail bike with real uphill qualities. You might think that doesn't fit in at all with the gravity faction from Forchheim. But as our last trail bike test the sportiest YT bike is also a lot of fun on the downhill. The sharp design, direct handling and firm suspension make the Izzo into a touring bike with all-round qualities. Now YT is giving the trail bike an update with the name "Core".
Core 4 is the name of the top equipment on the Izzo. 34 Fox Factory fork with Grip2 cartridge in the front, a Fox Float DPS Factory in the rear. The premium suspension should not only allow the rider to glide smoothly over the trail, but also reduce weight. YT calls the full carbon frame of the trail bike "Ultra-Modulus". It is designed to maximise performance while minimising weight. The Sram X01 Eagle groupset with a 520 per cent gear range is also intended to contribute to the lightweight character of the bike. The Izzo Core 4 is rounded off by the DT Swiss XMC 1501 Spline carbon wheels and the easy-rolling Maxxis Forekaster tyres. With a stated weight of 12.8 kilogrammes the top model 5599 Euro cost.
The Izzo Core 3 is characterised by the same ultra-modular frame as the Core 4 and solid equipment. The suspension also comes from Fox. However, the Core 3 does not have the suspension elements with the golden coating, but the black Performance Elite version. The Sram GX Eagle groupset with a 10-52 cassette ensures smooth shifting. Although it is slightly heavier than the X01, it works just as well. The Core 3 is fitted with M1900 Spline wheels from DT-Swiss. The aluminium wheels are slightly heavier than the classy wheels in the Core 4. 4299 Euro the Core 3 is available and should 13.3 kilogrammes weigh.
YT does not use a full carbon frame on the Core 2. Although the main frame is made of carbon, the rear triangle is made of aluminium. Although this increases the weight, the Core 2 should not lack riding fun. A Fox 34 Performance fork works at the front and a DPS Performance shock at the rear to cushion impacts from the ground. The Core 2 is shifted with Sram's affordable NX Eagle groupset with a gear range of 500 per cent. The DT Swiss wheelset was taken over from the Core 3. The most affordable Core model of the Izzo costs 3399 Euro and according to YT 13.8 kilograms.
YT announces that the first deliveries of the Izzo Core models will be dispatched by October this year. All bikes with a lead time of more than eight weeks can be pre-ordered via the website. Anyone wishing to reserve a model makes a deposit of ten percent of the purchase price, which is refunded in full in the event of cancellation. The remaining amount is paid four weeks before delivery.
