From the very first pedal stroke, the Cube One22 literally pushes forwards. If you take a look at our measurements, it quickly becomes clear why. Although the € 4399 One22 is at the lower end of the price range in our comparison test, its total weight (11.8 kilos) is 670 grams heavier than the next heavier candidate - despite the aluminium rear triangle.
The Newmen carbon wheels also set a top value in this test with 4044 grams. Light on its feet, the Cube One22 pulls away from the competition like Usain Bolt in a 100 metre sprint, sprints willingly over climbs and is easy to steer over the trail.
The rest of the equipment is high quality across the board. Ethirteen carbon cranks, Fox Factory suspension elements and a Shimano XT groupset: the price-performance ratio is outstanding. Despite the short reach, the slack seat angle
a sporty riding position despite the short reach.
The lively rear end is criticised. Especially when pedalling out of the saddle, a lot of leg work is lost in the bobbing rear end. Our testers also missed support in the mid-travel in open mode. On steep ramps or with an active riding style, this creates the feeling of sinking into the suspension travel. Together with the slack seat tube angle, the Cube climbs slightly rear-heavy, which makes it difficult to control the front wheel. Tip: ride with more compression.
Downhill, however, the suspension offers plenty of comfort and generates traction en masse. If you like to let it rip on the downhill, you should still opt for a Model with longer and flatter geometry orientate. The fast-rolling tyre combination fits into the overall sporty concept, but reaches its limits early on.
The Cube One22 is characterised by its price-performance ratio and excellent weight. It is perfect for pedalling-intensive tours. There are more competent bikes for rough terrain. - Thomas Weschta, BIKE tester
